One of the worst things that can happen in a sequel to a successful movie is that audiences will feel like they're seeing the same movie again with slight variations on the theme. Dead Man's Chest gives us all the characters we loved in the first movie, but puts them in a refreshingly original movie. The action sequences will keep you on the edge of your seat. And there are more laugh-out-loud moments in this movie than in most comedies. I felt entertained from the beginning right through to the special scene after the closing credits.
I bought this with the bonus disc as I am interested in various aspects of film making and, while the first of the trilogy was good in this respect, this promised to be better. The film is fine entertainment and there are some very, very funny moments. Depp has 'refined' his character further so it is more consistent than in the first, altho' Bloom is still a bit of a plank, but maybe that's because his character is pale by comparison with the Pirates. The computer effects are amazing and the bonus disc has info which itself is fascinating on this aspect. The story of how the 2nd and 3rd films were made back-to-back is enlightening (explains why the plot was easy to lose and the third was a bit of a mess to my mind) The statement by Disney that these are the pirate films to end all pirate films is a real challenge - it may be true as the budget thrown at this series was, by all accounts, immense and unlikely to be repeated. Recommended all 'round, particularly if you get the bonus disc. Even if you don't -get the trilogy and enjoy good family fun!
Had to buy this DVD because it's part of a trilogy. A must really. Love the swashbuckling. Not keen on Octupus Face aka Davy Jones....he's a bit scary. Kids will love it. There are some really really funny bits in it though. I'm looking forward to Part 2 World's End now
I bought it because of jonny depp and orlando bloom and it looked exciting. Because I have the others which I enjoy. I like it because of the action I dislike about it nothing
Having seen the first 'Pirates' film and the 2nd one at the cinema I felt I wanted to buy the DVD so I could watch it again ( and again ). We already have the first one on DVD. It's a great family film with plenty of action and humour and it is also one of those films you can watch over and over again without getting fed up with it. Can''t wait for the sequel to oome out on DVD!
