Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5S Digital Camera

This is a super little camera. In auto mode the quality and colour is superb and the movie quality in HD is the best I've seen - and at this price you will be very happy. I read many reviews over the net before buying one and they were all very positive. For a compact camera you would be hard pushed to better it.

Great image stabilisation even at the high end of the zoom. I find the 10x zoom very useful. HD video better than on a Sony digital camcorder I used recently. The only thing I dislike is the tendency tu overexposure and you can see it in almost every photo taken outdoors. Only when the Sun is directly behind your back you can see a blue sky. This problem can be compensated with EV compensation but if you expect to get great photos on automatic settings just forget it. Overall I would surely recommend this camera to anyone who would like to get something compact with a large LCD display and zoom not wanting to spend too much. It's features can easily guarantee it one of the top positions in it's price range.

Having scoured the mine-field of the ever modifying digital camera market, comparing optical zooms, digital zooms, mega-pixels and gigabytes with euros, dollars, pound stirling and zlottie's I opted for the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 and unlike a few of my e-bay disasters, I was more than amazed at the quality, not only the product itself, but the results it produces. Unlike most of the digital cameras in this price bracket, the TZ5 allows playback of stills and video in High Definition which is superb. Only bad point is Panasonic fly the HD flag, but don't include a camera to HD cable, this is extra at £20.00 ish, which makes the function a little less accessible. All in all 9.5 outta 10

Pick it up, turn it on, and take great pictures.
It is a very intelligent camera, with face detection, macro and lots of other features. Video is very good too.
3" screen is plenty big enough to view the pictures.

This camera is absolutely brilliant, straight out of the box it is so simple to use but with loads of features I have'nt got around to trying yet. Picture quality is excellent the 3" screen is great. I was looking for a camera that was easy to use a handy size with a top spec and I bought this camera after looking at loads of reviews which were consistantly good, at an excellent price with a 4gig SD card and free delivery a real bargain. I would recommend the TZ5 to anyone.

The video is perfect but no compression so needs lot of storage.
The pictures are not as canon G9 that I own but for compact camera is perfect if you do not crop a lot in your pc.
10x zoom for so small camera is ideal and you can zoom in video too.
If the camera had a bigger sensor I would rate excellent but you can’t have everything in that price!
The pity is that the newer model tz50 has only wifi for upgrade (useless)

I bought this camera as a replacement for a Sony Cybershot that went faulty. Its a heavy camera and lot bigger to use than the Sony, however, I found the picture quality excellent and having the 10x optical zoom is a real bonus for such a small camera. We took over a thousand photos on our first holiday with it to Canada which meant lots of scenery photos and person photos. All werte excellent provided you used the correct setting. I paid about £200 for this camera which came with a few extras. For the money I cant complain at all and would recommend this camera to anyone.

Leica lens is one of the best in the world and provides pin sharp quality, zoom is phenominal, screen size is large and clear. 4GB memory provides hundreds of large pictures, I believe the best compact camera available.

The camera has Intellegent auto, this turns on 5 amazing features...
1: Face detection, this will pick up to 15 faces. Good for groups photos!
2: Advance Anti-shock, this will keep a nice smooth image!
3: Auto Scene detection, this will automaticly choose a scene for you! this means you will get the best possible images you can no matter what your taking a picture of!
4: Light detection, if your taking a picture of a shadow area, the lumix camera will turn up the ISO and will be able to see whats within shadow
5: Motion detection, when you take a picture of someone waving for example, do you get blur from where they are waving?? Lumix will keep cut out the blur meaning that you will get a very sharp image!

This camera also has wide angle lense. This means you do not need to stand back to take a picture or when taking a group picture, you dont need to get everyone to squeez in!

Fantastic camera, excellent zoom and auto mode only thing is that if you zoom in on close subject say less than one meter it tends to fish for optimum focus. Bar this superb camera and amazing screen and playback 9.5 out of ten

This may be a compact camera, but it produces excellent still pictures (9MP resolution) as well as being capable of taking hi-def video. Another major attraction for me is it's focus range: supporting 28mm wide-angle, as well as 10x optical zoom. A great all-rounder in a small, well-designed package.

Camera is the best i ever had all th feature are brilliant and the clarity of the pictures taken are unbeleivable

After carrying around a Canon digital SLR with various lenses on most of my frequent walks, this is a breath of fresh air because of the massive weight saving.

The 10 times zoom means that I can almost forget the bigger and heavier lenses that I normally carry around in a back pack. Beware of some cameras that offer high magnification that can only achieve it by resorting to just using the centre of the image processor which cuts down massively on the amount of pixels available.

Most of the useful functions that appear on a top end digital SLR are featured on this camera which also has a superb Leica lens.

I considered paying more for a Leica camera, but when I discovered that they use the same Panasonic processor - what's the point?

The screen size is massive at 3 inches but I do recommend applying a clear adhesive screen protector which can be bought for around £10.00 for a pack of two on ebay.

One slightly annoying thing is the delay time between pressing the shutter button and the camera taking the image which increases to around half a second when the battery is getting low. This does not sound too bad but the other day I tried to take an action picture in automatic mode of my 18 month old grandson throwing stones into some water on a beach. I quickly realised that the delay means that I missed his throw every time and so had to try and predict when he was about to throw. This was a bit frustrating. However, this is no worse than other digital compact cameras, and probably better than most.

I am soon going to try out digiscoping with my new Lumix which is something that I have always wanted to do. Compact cameras are ideal for this and so this technically great camera should really excel.

I am sure that anyone purchasing this camera will be delighted. It is technically very accomplished and easy to use.

I love this smart compact camera. It fits in a handbag nicely and yet is full of great features. With 9 megapixels, fantastic zoom range, logical and clear navigation through menus and highly visible 3" screen, one can take super quality photos with ease - and without any photographic knowledge.

A lovely feature I discovered is the on-board slideshow with transitions and music. The camera meets all my needs. The only improvement for me would be the inclusion of a printed version of the user manual. Basic operating instructions are included, but to appreciate all the features you need to download the full manual from the internet.

Extrememly high spec camera at an affordable price which will be future proof for quite some time with its HD recording ability, wide angle lens and high level optical zoom (10x). quite intuitive menu system to access the huge number of functions that it contains - it also has iA (intelligent auto) which means it can also be a very simple point and shoot camera. Very imrepessed.

The camera is an excellent substitute for my bulkier Fugi9600, in that it can easily fit in a pocket or for a lady, a handbag. The performance is every bit as good as the makers claim and similar to the Fugi. On the whole I am very pleased with it. Minus points are 1) the case gives very little protection to the delicate shutter mechanism and I intend to replace this case with one that gives the necessary protection and has room for a spare battery.and 2) be careful using the mini tripod.The camera can easily topple.

This realy is a cracking little camera. It is a bit biger than your average compact Digital camera but packs a real punch. Firstly it has a good lens that has a significantly larger diameter than your average compact camera and with its 10x zoom you realy can get in close to the action. The inteligent auto mode is first rate and you will find yourself leaving the camer on this setting most of the time. Exposure and focus are very reliable and the camera is not easily fooled by awkward shooting conditions. Stick the camera on a tripod and try the "stary sky" sceen mode and you will be amazed at the night shots you can get.
The best bag to fit this camera by the way is the Lowepro Rezo 30 that you can buy on Ebay for £10.
If you do not mind the slightly biger size and the extra bit of weight then go for this camera and I am sure you will not be disapointed. There is little to touch the performance unless you jump in and go the whole hog and buy a digital SLR.

The camera is fantastic, it takes stunning photos. Its 10 times optical zoom and the auto focus on it is brillant. I'd highly recommend this camera to anybody.

Having already got a digital SLR, I decided that I would also like something a little smaller for those times when you don't want to lug a big camera around.

I was attracted by some positive reviews, the looks, Leica lens, and the good image size (not the biggest, but certainly more than adequate for what I wanted).

So far I have been very pleased with the results. The TZ5 has a very flexible lens that provides a 28mm wide angle through to a 10 times optical zoom (with image stabilisation).

I have had a few blury images, but that is probably down to the casual snap happy way that I take photos. I have been impressed by how the camera handles the exposure in difficult lighting conditions. It also has a clever "face recognition" system, that helps ensure you get a good image. One of the things I thought I wouldn't use, is the movie mode. However, this has actually been quite a handy feature. The Lumix has a lovely big screen. There are times when you point it towards a bright light that you get thin vertical lines appear, but these do not impact the actual photo. WIth such a large screen I was unsure how this would impact upon the battery life. Again, I have been pleasantly surprised at how long it lasts (did me well for four days last weekend in the New Forrest).

The Lumix is a bit bigger than some of the digital cameras on the market, but I think that this is justified by the lens quality. Still small enough to put in your pocket though. All in all I would recommend to my friends.
