the show is absolutely amazing, true to life to pretty much every single detail about the iraq war today. the characters are deep and seem to have a vivid connection with one another, which makes the show interesting aswell as great fire fights and action scenes. the show comes at you from several angles at once and pulls it off fantastically, the first is obviously the front line in the combat zone and life there, secondly a young soldier gets hurt from an IED explosion and you see his road to recovery and his determination to get back to his unit even though he has lost his leg, and thirdly you see what the people who got left behind have to deal with aswell. the troubles of raising the kids single handed etc, the email marriage. truely a great touch from the director. i was also quite impressed about the C.O's, they seemed like they were the real deal, especially the captain and ssgt.Scream. all in all though, its a great series
Fantastic series best for a few years, far better than 24, lost etc this is a real gritty drama will bring a tear in places, why it never did very well is beyond me, americans feeling guilty? who knows but get it while you can.
This is the best or worst kept secret on TV ! I have no idea how none of the big TV companies in the UK missed out on this, it is top draw stuff! As a veteran of the Iraq war in 2003 I must say this brings alot of memories back, I also met alot of our American collegues in Iraq and I must say I would have liked to have met this group, especially SGT Screem, quality bloke !
Fox need to make a second season of this drama, as what is sooo good about it is the effects the families back home feel about there kith and kin away at war. This has all the war stuff for the lads but also the family side of things for the girls, all will love this !
Its like Band of Brothers except the 20th centry version. Great story line, alot of action and we get a good background into the soldiers home life. The only problem is there is no hints as to whether there will be another season cause at the end of this one, u will be anxious for another season. I rate a good 10 out of 10
Is a real shame this was axed after its 1st season. FX says it was due to falling ratings... would that be the vastly (but not fully) ignorant American people. This shows war how it is, with an extra portion of grit on the side, if you can’t handle truth... Then grow up.
If you liked Band of Brothers, You will love this. Excellent from start to finish, not glorifying the war over there in Irac but showing a gritty and realistic look at the war. It, like band of brothers covers most of the talking points of the recent war, like the mistreatment of prisoners in the concentration camps too having to defend road blocks. This will appeal to those that like charactors and drama as well as good action and war.
This item was bought as a gift, but i have been told that it is a very good series. i was also told that it has slight simalarities to band of brothers not sure if this is true as i haven't watched it myself!!
This under publicised series, originally hidden away on Sky, is quite simply the best thing I have seen on TV. I have always been a great fan of Bochko from Hill Street Blues, LA Law through to the spasmodically excellent NYPD Blue but this is his best series yet. It tells the story of a small US platoon of raw recruits sent to Iraq with a veteran (six months plus service!) embittered sergeant to guide them through the campaign. It mixes day to day conflict with details of their domestic trials and tribulations. The tension that is created in episodes like Roadblock Duty is electric and I defy anyone who watches Suicide Rain not to be moved to tears - I couldn't talk for quite some time afterwards it was so emotionally draining. It was pulled in the States because it was too realistic and too controversial for the major networks to show - presumably, this explains why none of the terrestrial channels were interested in the UK either. My advice is beg, borrow or steal it - this will change your view of war/conflict for ever! Steve
Great series exploring the many issues of modern warfare. Not the usual hollywood dross. Can be thoughtful in places and grisly in others. Quite similar to the 80 s series - tour of duty - about The Vietnam war. This series has large sections of "back home", not always exciting.
i bought this because in the high street shops its always so expensive,i had this on order from an online rental company, but decided to buy rather than wait for it. its a controversial series from steven bochco of NYPD BLUE,following a US army unit in iraq, cut short after its first season it had alot of promise for further seasons, though it may just have been a little to close to home, hence its cancellation. a box set worth owning and once you have it you will find it difficult to stop watching to the next episode. a great and worthy purchase!
ONE OF MY BEST BARGAINS ON EBAY, A GREAT SERIES ON THE IRAQ WAR AND HOW IT AFFECTS THE SOLDIERS IN THE WAR AT HOME AND IN IRAQ. A VERY BELIEVABLE AND EASY TO FOLLOW SERIES. UNUSUALLY HUMOURED WITH A GREAT CAST.HOPEFULLY THERE WILL BE A SERIES TWO TO FOLLOW UP THIS EXCELLENT PROGRAM. I DECIDED TO BUY IT AFTER MISSING EPISODES ON CABLE TV WHEN I WAS TOO BUSY BUYING AND SELLING ON EBAY AND FROM WHAT I HAD SEEN IT LOOKED VERY HIGH QUALITY TV. I HOPE MORE PEOPLE WILL GET THE CHANCE TO BUY THIS UNIQUE ITEM FOR THEIR COLLECTIONS.
Over there follows the lives of a group of US soldiers serving in Iraq. The series is commendably non partisan, and shows the conflict from the point of view of both the soldiers and iraqi people and the many difficult decisions that are taken every day. It also shows the impact on the families left behind.
The first few episodes are the most action orientated, although the later episodes also work well as by this time the viewer genuinely cares about the characters. There are a few gory scenes but these are never done in a sensational way.
Overall an excellent attempt to portray ordinary people doing a very difficult job.
I bought this box set from the shops the day it came out, I have watched all 12 episodes, each one making me want to watch more and more, if you like war drama's, buy this one, or if you just want a good story line, with shooting and of course some gore, then this is the box set for you!
Any male would like this box set, and so would some females (the G.I. Joe type girls, lads you know what I mean).
