Origin Of Symmetry is possibly the finest rock album of it's time. It's like a journey through space - it's writing and recording was heavily influenced by Hyperspace, a book by Michio Kaku that explores the origin of symmetry - the beginning of the universe. As soon as you hear the piano intro to first track New Born, you know you're on to something good. If it hasn't already grabbed you by the lapels, wait for the skull-crushing guitar riff to start. Rock 'n roll! And then track two. Bliss gently eases you into another hard rocking track with it's deceptive piano arpeggios, and then by the chorus, the soaring vocals start. Phwoar. Space Dementia is a wonderfully creepy piano-based track that oozes venom at the unknown. Then Plug In Baby. Wow. This was recently voted one of the top tracks to play Air Guitar to, and I must admit: It really is. The penultimate track, Feeling Good, is a Nina Simone track - but not as you know it. It's given a new lease of rock-life and funks up the album brilliantly. The final track, Megalomania, offers exactly what you'd want from a track with a name like that. Epic church organs, ear-splittingly high vocals (from a man, no less!) and thoughtful lyrics. This is just a big slice of prog rock. Phwoar!
As a fan of Muse I would say that the Origin of Symmerty album is on of the best they have done. It has a nice variation of songs that are great to listen to, most of which are played live by Muse and the crowd love it. To get a rough idea of what Muse sound like, go to their web site at www.muse.mu or visit youtube.com.
i have only been into muse for just under a year and i only really recognised them when they came out with starlight on there most recent album black holes and revelations, i then heard alot more of there music and got into them alot.
I don't listen to much rock either, its not my fav genre, by they're so telented i had to listen to them.
this album is defintley my fav by them, all the tracks stand out and my fav from the album is probabaly citizen erased or bliss.
VERY GOOD ALBUM, VERY IMAGINATIVE, UNIQUE AND AMAZING, BUY IT NOW!, IF YOU LIKE THEIR RECENT ALBUM , THIS IS EVEN BETTER.
If you are lucky/unlucky enough to read my other reviews on this group you will know I do not have a bad word to say about Muse. Its raw talent and I mean musical skills, nothing else!! This is another one of those classic albums which you never want to end but when it does it only takes a few seconds to start again at the beginning ready for another play through. There is nothing on here which cannot be listened to.It is stunning from start to finish and I highly recommend it to any lucky person who is thinking of buying it. You don't get many bargains for under a tenner these days,DON'T miss this one!!
Ive been looking for this cd for a while, as Muse are my favourite band. I'd heard quite a lot of hype about this cd and was not disappointed. It is a fantastic cd, displaying some of Muse's best work!
I bought this item because I am a great Muse fan and already have tickets to see them live at the New Wembley Stadium in June! My frist copy got broken in a recent hose move and so I jumped on Ebay to see if there were any avaliable. This particular album is an early release and hard to get hold of so I was really pleased to get it for such a good price, I cant remember exactly how much I paid but it was less than £10 including p&p! If your a Muse fan, you'll know why I think this album is great, if not I suggest you by Absolution by Muse then by this album (you'll know why once you hear Absolution you cant help but love them!!)
I saw Muse headlining at Leeds Festival this year, they were fantastic! Decided to buy all their albums and this is definately their best, followed by Showbiz. Buy it!
I decided to buy this CD because I already had the Black Holes and Revelations and Absolution albums, so I wanted to get the other two as well. I found Showbiz not as good as the new ones, but Origin of Symmetry did not disappoint. If you like their new stuff you will love this, it's operatic, thrilling and uplifting, and totally brilliant.
I bought this album originally because of the tracks 'Plug in Baby' and 'New Born', but found that almost all of the other tracks were as good. Therefore, it was a particularly good buy. It was avaialbe easily on eBay without too much looking around.
In terms of value, it was medium. It purchased it for just over £7, whereas is is availabe from Virgin/HMV for around £5.99p. However, I purchased it from eBay because it was easily avaialbe, whereas mainstream stores have to order it in, delaying it a lot more. Overall, in terms of delivery, it arrived promptly. My only complaint is that it was quoted as being 'New', but did not have the cellophane wrapping around it, which most genuinely new CD's have.
People say that Muse are Radiohead copiers, but why would a band copy someone inferior? Admittedly, I think New Born was written only with the intention of stadium pauses - just before the big guitar part. But that apart, most bands would sell their soul to get some songs like this. They did however borrow hyper music from R.A.T.M's evil empire.
I had been keeping an eye out for this album for 5 years, since the song Plug In Baby was released. At the time it cost fifteen pounds in HMV (and other stores) and I couldn't afford it on my measly wage! The song has stuck with me all this time and now, in 2006, it still costs £8 to purchase. eBay came to the rescue and during an idle search I managed across it for less than the RRP. The eBayer was a 100%er and posted it (in perfect condition) as soon as the money was paid. Believe me, this album was worth the half-decade wait. Tracks such as New Born, Plug In Baby, and their version of Nina Simone's classic Feeling Good make this a definite purchase for those who have bought any other Muse album. Meatier than their first album, Showbiz, this is a worthwhile stepping stone to their fantastic third, Absolution. Buy Origin Of Symmetry and hear the progression of one of the UK's best bands. Fully recommended.
The album is filled with banging drums, crunching guitar riffs and haunting sounds. The first song i ever heard was 'Plug in Baby' and i've been a huge fan ever since, it blew my socks off! Muse are definitly the 'marmite' of the music world, you either love them or hate them, i don't think there's an in-between. This album stirs raw emotions and at times pushes the listener to produce tears, such is the power behind the music. Always a recommended favorite album, so much so that i have it in three different formats! An absolute 'bruiser' of an album, music to blow your ears away!!!
