ANOTHER BRILLIANT STUDIO GHIBLI FILM! BEAUTIFUL BACKGROUNDS,WITH FINE DETAILS MAKE THIS VERY REALISTIC.THE CHARACTERS ARE LOVABLE AND TRUE TO LIFE.IT REMINISES FROM THE 1960s-THE PRESENT 1980.WITH PLENTY OF FUNNY AND PAINFUL MEMORIES,ITS QUITE HEARTFELT. MY ONLY DOWNSIDE IS- IT IS THE ONLY STUDIO GHIBLI,WHICH HASNT BEEN ENGLISH DUBBED.SO ITS SUBTITLED.WHICH IS A SHAME AS MY YOUNG KIDS ARE DESPERATE TO WATCH THIS,AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT WOULD VERY MUCH APPEAL TO YOUNGSTERS. IF YOU ENJOY THE STUDIO GHIBLIS YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!
I'm already a big fan of the Studio Ghibli collection and have slowly built up my collection of the fantastic films. This is no exception.
I absolutley loved the switches between present and past with the music being the signifier of the year. It's truly heartwarming to see the young girl struggle with her maths homework and boys.
My only reccomendation would be if you're more of a fan of the fantasy films like Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbour Totoro and Spritied Away you may be alittle disapointed as this film is simply about growing up.
i ordered this film as i'd seen the trailer for it in all my other studio gibhli films and thought it looked visually stunning while telling a story.
this film is a romantic film and very poignant it tells of a woman who every year for her holidays goes to work in the countryside because as a child her holidays were shared with her 2 sisters and they couldn't afford holidays really. it shows what her reactions were as a child as she recalls memories of her childhood. its a film that constantly switches between past and present but i found it truly heartwarming. it follows her meeting a man out on her holiday and being attracted and interested in him and he in turn. the memories of her childhood are in some ways fun but also life learning as she shows you why she is the way she is in that moment in time.
the ending is truly wonderful i really enjoyed this film and watch it many more times.
