Olympus Zuiko Digital 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 Zoom Lens for the Evolt E-410 & E-510 Digital SLR Cameras

Great entry level lens for all 4/3 users.

This lens was available as part of the 2 lens kit package for the E-510 and E-410. However, while a lot of people may have got this lens with their E-series dSLR, there are many others who are now looking for a light weight, good value telephoto lens.
As with the 14-42mm kit lens, this lens is superb value for money. The lens has a great focal length (80-300mm in 35mm terms) and comes with a lens hood (something that the Nikon & Canon equivalents sadly lack) which may seem like a minor thing but I personally think all lenses should come with hoods.
This lens has the electronic focus-by-wire system in a lot of the Zuiko digital lenses which I have heard other people complain about. Personally I don't have a problem with it - in fact I quite like the fact that you can select which direction you turn the ring to focus in or out.
The quality of this lens is good. Personally, I think it feels a little flimsy at the 150mm full extension as the front element moves a long way out from the main body of the lens. However, I’ve never had any problems with the lens and as an standard (or entry level) piece of glass you have to expect a fair bit of plastic. On the plus side, it has an internal focusing mechanism which means the front element doesn’t rotate, a real bonus if, like me, you use circular polarisers.
There is a drop in image quality at the 150mm end of the focal length, but only at the widest apertures and you still have to pixel peep to really notice it. However, like all entry level telephoto lenses, it can be a little soft when wide open at the long end. On the flip side, it’s better than the Canon or Nikon competitors - something Olympus have worked very hard on and can be very proud of.
Simply, this is another great entry level lens from Olympus.
