Ok, I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of Oceans 11. It was slick, star studded and well made entertainment but not what I would term an 'experience'.
So Oceans 12? It's slick, star studded and well made! And in my view pretty pointless. Well, ok if the point was to make pretty much the same film with the same story, mainly the same actors, some different stunts and a different robbery then it had a point.
If you loved the first 1 and don't expect anything more than a rehash of that buy it. If you want more, get something else.

  Ocean's Twelve
Review created: 30/01/08

Three years after Danny Ocean and 10 other thieves managed to steal $160,000,000 from casino tycoon Terry Benedict, they have been caught, and are left with two weeks to give back all the money they stole, plus interest over three years.

Danny and his friends needs to get $190,000,000 or else they will be killed, so they plan to pull off three large-scale robberies in Paris, Rome and Amsterdam before the time is up. All the while, the boys must deal with increasing pressure from a dedicated Europol agent with a link to Rusty's past, and a mysterious French rival known as the "Night Fox." Will Ocean's crew reach their full potential and become the greatest thieves the world has ever known, or will they fall victim to Benedict's revenge? All bets are off...

  It Might Make You Laugh

I bought this for the sole purpose of seeing the 2nd movie before going to the cinema to see the 3rd.

As a reslut of seeing this, I didn't bother to see the 3rd.

Some people didn't like the spoof cameo, but I thought it was funny. But as far as heist films go, this is very poor, compared to Ocean's 11.

  Class act.

Although this film doesnt match the first offering for a quirky clever genius plot and storyline the fact that its filled with some of the greatest acting talent to hit the screens in years more than makes up for it. Its still a great story with blistering performances. It just isn't as clever or original. But how could it be. If you have Oceans Eleven you need to add this to it. If you're thinking of buying one....you need to get the other. How often will you see so many names up there on the screen working so well with each other.Doesnt happen often amymore unfortunately.

I liked the first one. That is why I bought the second one. However, I dislike the second one, it is not nearly as good as the first. Enjoy,
Sylvester

  OCEANS TWELVE DVD

COMPARED TO OCEANS 11 THIS WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT FOR ME...!

I BOUGHT THIS FOR TWO REASONS: FIRST,I REALLY ENJOYED OCEANS 11 [SET IN VEGAS]AND HOPED THIS WOULD BE AS FAST MOVING AND WELL ACTED. SECOND REASON WAS I HAD RECENTLY VISITED ROME AND HAD BEEN TOLD MANY OF THE SCENES WERE SET IN THE WELL KNOWN STREETS AND PIAZZAS OF THE CITY.
UNFORTUNATELY THE 'PLOT' WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND SCREENWRITER MUST HAVE BEEN NAPPING BETWEEN HIS PAGES WHEN WRITING THIS ONE. THE ACTORS MUST HAVE
AGREED WITH ME, BECAUSE THEY WERE JUST GOING THROUGH TEH MOTIONS WHEN IT CAME
TO PROJECTING ANY ENTHUSIASM FOR EITHER THE STORY OR THEIR AUDIENCE.....
FLEETING GLIMPSES OF THE BEAUTIFUL CITY OF ROME WERE JUST THAT, AND THIS MOVIE REALLY COULD HAVE BEEN SHOT IN ANY EUROPEAN CITY FOR ALL WE SAW.
SO, WON'T BE LOOKING OUT FOR OCEANS 13 [IF THEY MAKE ONE..] AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW BOND FILM TO SEE SOME REAL ACTION AND ACTING....SEE YOU THERE!

  So lightweight it disappeared completely

The follow up to the remake of 'Oceans Eleven' this is one of the best examples of Hollywood producers not knowing when to leave well enough alone, and trying to cash in on the success of an earlier film with trite rubbish.

It has all the technical quirks of the first that gave that film it's 'feel' (the Clooney/Pitt 'unfinished sentence' conversations, stop-motion cuts, quirky music etc.), but this is the proof that making a good film is like making a good quiche - you can have all the right ingredients but if you don't do it properly you just end up with a plate full of sludge.

It also helps to have a plot. What passes for the plot in this film is so absurd that it can't sustain a film even as lightweight as this.

Don Cheadle is still speaking his rather quaint Dick-Van-Dykelish, and the two brothers are still squabbling, but the other characters all seem to have undergone a peculiar metamorphosis. They appear to have been written by someone lacking the skill, which has drawn clumsily on second-hand clichés. Damon has become the weak-kneed, over-eager social conscience of the group; Gould has become bland; the Chinese acrobat still can't speak English but everyone else can understand him. Worst of all, Andy Garcia who was so wonderfully, and chillingly menacing in the first has become a joke of a bad-guy: a cane-carrying renaissance man who can tinkle the ivories, speak fluent Chinese and illogically doesn't kill the 11 when finds them - because a total stranger asked him not to. They are no longer characters but caricatures.

Then there's Catherine Zeta-Jones. She plays the beautiful (naturally) daughter-of-a-thief cop who specialises in 'master thieves', and has previously been involved with Pitt's character [yawwwwwn]....

You would have thought it would be impossible for a cast like this to make something so dire. Apparently it isn't.

I don't know how the film ended because I fell asleep, so it's stretching my personal rating system** to give this two stars, but I like watching the actors. Not that I missed anything. The end seemed predictable to me, and when I asked my daughter - who managed to stay awake - it turned out I was right.
