With each season, NE became more compulsive watching. The emotions ran higher, Joel n Maggie's are they aren't they, Chris on the radio with his musings and philosophy on life, the native locals such as Ed living through films and Marilyn (the real healer of the community??). I could go on, but the best way of experiencing the wierd yet truely captiviating northern world is by immersing oneself in the lives of the folk of Cicely, Alaska.
I have been waiting for Northern Exposure to come to DVD for years- this season sums up why it was worth the wait as the will they/ won't they sub text between Maggie & Joel finally comes to a head. The final episode of this season was way ahead of it's time and honestly incredibly moving. Lots of series have attempted to interpret that episode in their own way, but nobody else has quite got it right. There are no extras on this DVD except for extended/ deleted scenes for each episode. However, you do have 17 hours of brilliant writing to get through that clearly inspired equally brilliant writing in other cult series, so if you need more- get season 4!
