N82 - Fine phone with only one let down

This is a phone with a wealth of features, and one that works really well.
The phone is quite chunky, this is to be expected with a smartphone, so it lacks the finesse of say, the Nokia 6300, having said that it is in proportion and features a decent sized (2.4") screen. Mine is in a quite presentable silver colour, though it wins no prizes for style, but it is only a phone.
Its battery life is quite good, a full charge is enough for 2days average use of phone, texts, camera and music player.
On Orange it gets a reasonable signal, even where coverage is patchy, texts also go rapidly in comparison to its predecessors, a 6680 and a 6230i, plus it clearly shows the progress of the text being sent, handy when signal is unreliable. When using predictive text it also has a reasonable dictionary and unlike the 6680 a good sized memory for new words, it does have the odd habit of changing the order of which options for spelling are presented, meaning you have to watch carefully what you write.
Features are numerous and many still to be explored, the internet works quite well, though slow as all mobiles seem to be, its useful that the screen can be rotated 90degrees to be used in landscape format. It has the ability to connect to wireless networks though i've yet to be able to access it. When i can it should reduce the heavy cost of mobile browsing.
The camera is excellent, the best i've seen in any mobile and the design is very good too, difficult to damage or open accidentally. The music player is also excellent, sound quality reasonable, built in speakers, tinny but useful and 3.5mm socket so you can connect your favourite headphones. You can also record video, like the camera this is as good as any other phone i've seen. the phone can also be used to store and watch films in several formats, good for passing time in airports etc.
GPS/satnav is also very good, picking up a signal faster than many dedicated units, however i'd recommend third party software, nokia's own is distinctly average and the voice guided feature only available on subscription, garmin xt is a good choice, i'd prefer tomtom, but their navigator 6 will only run with an bluetooth unit, not the built in one. I use Viewranger for the GPS which is excellent. This feature is battery hungry and you can't get a full day using GPS camera and music player, spare power source is recommended. On a recent flight i tracked the plane over northern england, along with altitude and speed... ok not the best reason to buy a phone.
Like i said it has many other features and capabilities, but i wanted one gadget to carry around that performed many functions, and the N82 does it admirably, phone, email, camera, satnav, mp3 player, each function done at least well, it has not crashed once in the months use, the 6680 crashed daily, as did my brothers N70. It has loads more memory than these, and can smoothly run 3 applications simultaneously.
I bought it in preference to the N95 8GB because it will accept microSD memory cards which the N95 8gb doesn't, though that has a bigger screen (2.8" but same resolution 240 x320) and is slightly more compact. I can't comment on other manufacturers smartphones.
The one let down to all this is the keypad, woeful, with fiddly grain of rice keys and a flimsy navigation button, except for this it would be perfect!
In conclusion, if you want a multi-gadget travel aid, and can live with the keypad, try one out
