This is the Nikon 80-200 2.8 ED - the old push pull zoom lens.

Its a bit of a beast and will require extra work down the gym to carry it but its worth it.

These lenses go for about £200 - £250 on Ebay now and on a digital equate to a 120 - 300mm with a constant 2.8 aperture. They are fantastic value.

They are built like tanks, its a good old metal cased lens and if you get a good one it is slick and smooth to use. Unbelievably there is no lens creep on such a heavy lens and the results are amazing.

It has a lovely bite to it and images are razor sharp especially at F8 - 11
At 2.8 it has a lovely soft bokeh taht falls away nicely from the main sharp image and it gives a very shallow depth of field which can be great for nature shots.

I have had this and an 18-200 VR and I much prefer the results with this lens especially considering its half the price. You don't get a tripod collar with it and you can't get one to fit because of the zoom ring but a good monopod will see you right.

This lens is over £600 new and some real bargains can be found on ebay. Make sure you factor in the cost of a skylight as well as they are 77mm. I would suggest opting for a Marumi DHG lens protector they go for about £20 on Ebay and are as good as Hoya Pro at half the price.

Buying from China or the US ensures cheaper costs for NEW items but there is a downside also.
Some sellers offer to pay half of any duty you pay but the bottom line is that you get credit from the store only. No cashback!
The seller I used in Hongkong Advertises as "duty free" but after paying, tells you that the sales have been 'marked down' in value to reduce any Duty Taxes and that such taxes are to be paid by the purchaser.
Postage and insurance together with tracking fees were very expensive.
Also my seller demanded electronic transfer of cash which cost in excess of £20, paid by the purchaser.
Finally, for UK buyers to buy from the USA can have major problems. The equipment I bought was for the USA market only. On trying to get support from the manufacturer I found that having no State, Zipcode complicated the support request resulting in the USA supplier passing me to the Europe supplier. Needless to say, the Europe supplier was not aware of the goods supplied as the goods were for the USA market only----catch 22!
I will not be using any foreign sellers from Ebay anymore.

I was looking for a professional lens in bargain price ( that’s is why I like to buy on Ebay). I found the lens and according the description “nearly new, used only couple of times, easy to be taken as new” it was what I wanted. Seller appeared to be trustful (long on Ebay and with nearly 200 positive feedbacks). From the beginning I had very good contact with seller. He was selling on behalf on his friend. I paid by cheque (that’s not what I prefer, I like paypal because is simple and quick) and soon received a lens which was very well pack. However far from what I expected to get and also much different from what it was described on web. Lens was dirty and with obvious sings of use. I did couple of pictures of this lens and send to seller asking whether what he has sent me fits the description. He apologised and explained to me that his son put an offer of his friend with description as he was told. He offered me money back + posting cost. I did contact local shop and asked how much it would cost to clean this lens. I proposed a seller that he will send me a cheque for cleaning and servicing of the lens and he agreed. Finally I left him positive feedback for very good contact and kept the lens. From this I learned how important a good communication between seller and buyer is. Next time however, I will avoid buying from someone selling on someone else behalf.

I hope you find it helpful
