I wanted a short zoom lens for my second camera and had tried out this lens and felt it fitted my needs. The lens is packaged by Nikon as part of a camera and lens deal. Value of the lens within the deal about £60. However, the cost of the lens alone is about £120. I though there must be folk on E bay who bought the lens/camera package and did not need the lens. I was correct in my thinking. I bid for several but they sold outside my self imposed limit. Then one came along at the right price. I got it. The seller could not have been more honest and efficient. Every thing went perfectly. Both parties very happy. That is what I think should happen every time on E bay.
As a keen photographer this lens is the most used lens i have, with that in mind i have bought a spare lens just incase of a breakdown. The ability to add other lenses to the 18-55 makes it the must have .
This is what used to be known as a standard zoom lens. This model is often suppiled with the D40 and D50. Compared to the 18-135 it is a lot lighter. I bought it as a spare/backup. In my experience accidents can easily happen and a backup could save the day. Images are very sharp.
After reading a few reviews I nearly didnt buy this pleasant little lens. I was looking for a budget wide angle lens and this fitted the bill. It is a bit cheap looking on the outside, but at the end of the day its whats on the inside that counts and for the money this is a cracker. Its not to slow on AF and its focus is nice and sharp whilst giving a bright clear view of your subject. The mount is plastic but there again it only weighs 221g so thats no problem. This is of course a DX digital only lens and my only beef is that when used on most digital cameras with APS-C size sensors, like my d200, the 18mm wide angle becomes about 26mm not so wide angle, this is due to the 1.5x magnification factor and thus sort of negates the point. In general this is a good budget lens that you can not really go wrong with.
This little Nikkor 18-55 is that kind of lens which worth 5 times the money you spend on it. Its quality is excellent even if used on the D80 body and its sensor. Took some sensational picture, won a couple of competitions with it and always been happy. Recently bought the 17-35 2.8 Nikkor and the 28-70 2.8 Nikkor; now with the 50mm 1.4 and the 35mm f/2 Nikkor my equipment is done, that's why I'm selling it.
Got this lens to replace my std 50mm one what a lens it will take such great pics form a couple on mm away from a subject if on Manuel, and has a goos zoom on it in wide angle .Just love it
