In my humble opinion, this is a must-have album. A genre-defying masterclass of an album. A desert-island disc. The be all and end all. The holiest guacamole.
The flavour of this album is hard to define - some of the collaborators are easier to pin down though. James Lavelle, Richard File (no DJ Shadow this time) Josh Homme (QOTSA) Ian Brown and Mani (The Stone Roses) Jarvis cocker (Pulp) Brian Eno (yep).
Past collaborators include Thom Yorke (Radiohead) and Richard Ashcroft (The Verve).
So why is this a good album? Why get it?
If you have heard it then I'm probably preaching to the converted, if not then get it then decide. It's a waste of time to try to describe this album with words, that's why we have music. (I'll try though, it's a review!)
Lyrically vague yet meaningful, musically very strong, broken beats and tidy rhythm, lost harmonies and moments of clarity, electronic clatter and good guitar, a lot to think about. Certainly written in a post - 9/11 world with lyrics such as, 'an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth', maybe this concept of revenge runs contrary to the message, 'turn the other cheek'.
I'm ready to be wrong about this, but this is the first review of this album here on ebay, I look forward to someone who has a good understanding of this album giving a better review. For the record my name is sean, I'm from manchester, england, my first ever review, my favourite album of the last five years. Cheers!
