Brian Eno - Music For Airports (Ambient 1) (CD 1987)

I bought this CD after reading an interview with an author (name of David Mitchell, I think) who wrote the excellent "Cloud Atlas", in which he said that when he was in his writing shed at the bottom of his garden this was what he listened to. It is very unintrusive music, some may say anodyne (I do play it at bedtime) but restful and makes good background noise for sudoku, crosswords or just writing Booker Prize-winning novels
