Dar Williams - Mortal City/The Honesty Room (CD 1996)

In my humble opinion, these first two albums from Dar Williams clearly illustrate that this lady is THE most talented singer-songwriters of all time.
A high accolade? Yes; but one I feel is very justified and true.
Dar is a rare treasure trove in the realms of music. Few have heard of her, but when they do, they will invariably go out and acquire everything she has ever recorded!
This is the second time we've bought these albums. We will be giving them to a friend of ours, as a present.
So, what do we love about them so much?
Well, forget the normal songwriting techniques, and cliches that you find in most ordinary music.
Dar Williams is refreshingly different. She is highly intelligent, artistic, mindful, and her songs often include a funny, dry sense of wit - which I simply adore. She has the natural ability of writing some wonderful melodies, delivered with her uniquely beautiful voice.
The Honesty Room was her debut album, and is (in my humble opinion again) the finest debut album of all time, by any artist. Mortal City was her follow-up album, and the quality in songwriting and vocals doesn't falter.
Dar might be little known, she might be on a small record label; but I say to anyone who has not got a Dar Williams CD in your collection - you simply don't know what you're missing!
I would award this lady 11 points out of 10. It's not enough to describe her as excellent. She goes far beyond that. Dar is truly inspirational - the finest songwriter I've ever had the pleasure of listening to!
