Monsters, Inc. (DVD 2002)

What a treat. The Monsters and the energetic little toddler, Boo, are not just cute, they're great personalities too - and so well animated. The film's entertaining from start to finish and a couple of the extras are as good as the film, in their own short way. Some of the good things on this DVD:

A wonderful story. The world of the monsters runs on the power of screams that the monsters have to generate by scaring human children. They have a whole industry dedicated to extracting these blood-curdling shrieks from the poor, terrified little kids. Each child is matched with its ideal monster and their monster passes from the power factory in Monstropolis through one of thousands of bedroom closet doors - one for each child - into the child's bedroom where it carries out its job and the resulting scream is captured in a flask. The monsters have to be very careful though because they believe that children are highly toxic and can kill them with a touch. The monsters are actually tremendously alarmed at the prospect of contact with a human child. If only the children knew ....

Excellent characters. The main ones are outstanding. The little girl, Boo is too cute to mention. Sulley (big, woolly, top scoring scarer) and Mike (small, walking eyeball and Sulley's best friend and assistant) have all the usual concerns of the average working man and they're also funny. Mike has a girl friend (she may be my favourite). She has one eye and snakes for hair. When she gets romantic with Mike, her snakes get all romantic with him too. When she gets angry with Mike, they all rattle their tails and glare and hiss. Those animators must have been inspired. What a clever idea. Randle, Boo's special monster - the one that really scares her - moves like a centipede. He's a real villain with a wicked plot go maximise scream power.

Brilliant extras. In particular two short animated films: "For the Birds" and "Mike's New Car". I've watched them more times than I've watched the main film. Both are very funny. I've found that I can't even think about "For the Birds" without starting to laugh. There's one scene in the film where several of the small, quarrelsome birds are taking the Mickey out of the big, friendly bird - pulling faces and bristling their feathers. You'll need to see it to believe how funny this is.

I recommend this DVD. It'll be played over and over again.

One of the best kiddies movies around, even though i'm over 40 i love this film, as do my kids. Mike and sully are the cutest monster's that i have ever known. This movie is one that you can watch again and again.

my granddaughter has the video at our caravan but wanted a dvd copy for home as she is such a great fan, she is 10 yrs old and has had the original video copy for at least 4 years and she still loves it and can watch it over and over again. As for me a 60 year old I have had the pleasure to enjoy it with her. Its a great film, full of fun with a touch to your emotions side.

What a cracker,Got to watch this film for the first time a couple of months ago,and when it was over my daughter cried her eyes out,for an animation film,this is up there with the toy stories,and the incredibles,a childs film with a hint of adult humour,that only us grown ups will understand,and the wee ones will never know anything different.
when the film finished,we had to buy it,so onto ebay we went,and so did everybody else i think,everyone had a bid on,and at that time,It was just out of our price range,so we waited,we had until christmas anyway, so we had time to wait,and then at the weekend a buy now for £2.50 + £1.50 p&p, £4.00 all in,and a double discer,brilliant,what a bargain.
what we tend to do is wait it out,as we have a price bracket for all dvd`s we will not go over £4.00 for any dvd,whats the point,a lot of shops nowadays are cheap to buy,but this was top of our price range,and maybe if we waited a little longer,we could`ve got it cheaper,but for two discs,we were prepared to push the boat out just this once,besides it is a christmas present for daughter,***WINK WINK***.

the film though,with the voices of John(roseanne)Goodman and Billy(city slickers)crystal,is pure entertainment,about a company of MONSTERS,that go through doors,(which represent closet monsters)to scare us humans,until one day,there is a breach and the tides turn........if you want to find out more,then go buy it today,at your nearest ebay store.

Just had to get this film eventually as my 4 year old Daughter fell in love with it. I was also eager to see it anyway & think it is brilliant great story very funny & technically it looks amazing, a Pixar classic as you would expect from that team. Some bits may scare very young kids but after a few viewings will soon win them over. Classic stuff.

received the dvd all well, and was packaged well, but the dvd tends to stick sometimes, but not every time

I have a 4yr old son and 18month toddler who both watch this film. my son has loved it since the first time i put it on. in 1 day he has played it many times and already knows what the film is about. a excellent all rounder to keep the energetic kids entertained!the film has great characters and great humour for children and adults alike. brilliant!

THis is an AMAZING film by Disney-Pixar. Loveable characters and a great story line, Boo, the little girl, is the cutest. I lvoe it when DIsney-Pixar do little babies in films, theyn always make them so cute, and Boo is heart meltingly adorable!!!

Good cast of characters who do the voices, John Goodman Jennifer Tilly and Billy Crytsal make this film a must see and a must own!!!

Full of good laughs and great warming story line. A finely made CG film.

A must for all fans of Disney-Pixar, but that goes without saying.

I FIRST WATCHED THIS DVD ON MY OWN BUT THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GOOD TO BUY IT FOR MY KIDS. BRILLIANT FROM START TO FINISH. WILL HAVE ALL THE FAMILY LAUGHING.

I like it because my girlfriend like it! I think that the story is genius and brings you to a fantastic world.

as usual disney have done it again in making a fabulous film that adults enjoy as much or more than the children! this monster movie gets you hooked on those lovable characters and you wish you could jump right in there and give sully a hug so say my children.the extra short films on the dvd the birds and mike's new car are a big hit too.i'm sure if you have never seen this film or love it you will enjoy it all over again, go on reaquaint yourself with boo and the gang!

What more could you possibly want from an animated movie?
This film is and will be an absolute classic forever. My son watched this film for the first time when he was just 2 years of age and we are now on our second copy and he is still 4 months away from his 3rd Birthday (ok his attempts at loading into a dvd player may have contibuted slightly to the requirement of a new copy). A film that I feel will be with him for the rest of his life, he absolutly loves this film, to see the joy on his face when he see's "monsters" falling over, screaming, playing hide and seek is worth more to me than watching him play with a toy that cost £30.00 knowing he will be bored of it within 3 months, he actually laughs out loud. The other good thing about this film is that even when he has been under the wheather he still just sits and watches this movie, you can even capture glimpses of smiles when he's not well.
The animation that Pixar has brought to the screen is incredible, from the amazing sychronisation of mouth movement when characters are speaking to the minute details such as the hairs on the bodies of monsters moving even when the character breathes, and the part I find particularily cleaver is when Randolf is being battered by Boo seeing the multi coloured changes happening is not only clever but extremely well thought out.
The story line is very imaginative but in a stange way very realistic..
The characters almost seem to be real too..
This is a must have movie, if you have never seen this film you must, as once you have it is a must own movie.
Thank you Pixar for making a truly fantastic story come to life and thank you again to Disney for bringing so much joy to my little boy by way of a couple of hours of magic. A True delight.

It's such a great film - we all love to sit down and watch it. The kids love watching all the outtakes at the end, Mike's new car and the birds.

Hi this is a great childrens dvd for all the family to watch. I bought this dvd for my daughter as she is collecting the disney dvds. But all in all a great film to watch!
