Xbox 360 - brilliant but worth it? £££££££££££££££££££

The good: All games for the Xbox 360 are in high-definition, as is the excellent, user-friendly Dashboard interface. There's built-in support for wireless controllers and excellent online gaming, content downloads, and communications via Xbox Live. The console is not only backward compatible with many (but not all) original Xbox titles, but it also doubles as a superior digital media hub and Windows Media extender. The system's online Marketplace allows easy purchases of mini-games, movies, and TV shows.
The bad: The list of truly impressive next-gen games remains small. The console has some design flaws: a noisy exhaust fan, a gigantic oversized power supply, no built-in wireless networking, only three USB ports, and no DVI or HDMI output. The DVD player is rather substandard, and support for next-gen HD-DVD movies requires a bulky external accessory. Additionally, the system's customary 20GB hard drive can't store a lot of high-definition downloadable content. Online gaming requires a paid subscription to Xbox Live.
The bottom line: The Xbox 360 delivers the power and performance of a high-end gaming PC, including impressive digital media and networking features.

*(UPDATE)* All 360's fitted with an HDMI output (the Elite model and 2008 onwards Premium & Arcade models) have been internally redesigned to stop the red light failure happening.
I have owned an Xbox 360 from launch and I am on my third due to them becoming faulty. Here is some information I wish I had known! My advice to anyone purchasing a 360 is to get one manufactured after january 2007 and this is for two reasons..
1.early Xbox's were much more prone to crash's and the widely known "red ring of death" which indicated hardware failure and a costly bill to get it repaired if not under warranty. This problem featured on BBC's Watchdog. Recently Microsoft have extended the warranty to three years for any problems relating to the red ring of death which is reasurring.
2.Microsoft have used 3 different dvd/cd drives, this can be determined by the look of the disc tray (do a google search). All models manufactured after jan 2007 were using the third drive which according to internet sources is not just much quieter (the 360 suffers from a very loud combination of the disc drive and fans) but apparently also smoothes out loading times.
Problems aside its excellent, it is truly next generation, the graphics are outstanding, the control pads are a dream and the whole package, wireless pad, xbox live, headset, dvd player and hard drive all combine to give you more than a console has offered before at a very reasonable price. Thinking back to xbox 1 initial £300 price tag and Nintendo N64 were £250, so with inflation and what you get 360's are a bargain at £280.
There is much speculation of a 360 Elite pack coming out (around end of april), the Xbox 360 & pad being black (looks sweet check it out on the internet in a google search) Its hard drive will dwarf the premium's 20GB harddrive at 120GB! also the xbox will have an HDMI output included.
(*UPDATE*) Now released ,The Elite is an excellent update of the 360!
Inline with the release of this is speculation of a price drop so maybe you should wait and see what happens and save a bit of cash, but do get one, trust me they are a quality piece of kit with an ever growing collection of superb games.

If your thinking of getting one of these as a christmas present for example for a child, you might think about getting the premium instead.
Its not much more expensive and it has a hard drive for storing games, videos, music etc, this one only comes with a small memory card, its enough to save games but some (a rare few) arent playable without a harddrive, and some games requires fixes which need to be saved etc etc.
Anyway, if you find yourself needing to buy the hard drive afterwards, you will discover they are a rip off. Get the premium

I decided to buy a 360 because i have wanted one for a while, and after having spent the best part of a month at my mates house playing on his, i decided to purchase my own, online gaming on these things are probably the best you can ever come across (outside of MMORPG's for PC/mac). i also love the fact you can still contact your msn friends, even when you are on the 360.
I would recommend a 360 to anyone, over a PS3 and a nintendo Wii, because a) i havent played a PS3, just heard bad reveiws, and b) nintendo Wii is a party console - its good to sit down with a group of mates and have a laugh, whereas with a 360, you have the solo element aswell as the online/multiplayer element.

Best console I have ever used. Better than PC gaming?I have always preferred my PC for gaming, and purchased an xbox 360 because I wanted to play an exclusive title. What impressed me with the console the most, was not the graphics or game play, but the fact that all of the features just WORK with no hassle.
The dashboard is clear, well designed and customizable which makes reading news, launching a game and managing achievements really easy. xbox live marketplace is great as game demos are free, and when you download them, the speed of the servers is very fast and they can be paused and resumed later. The xbox online play is a much better experience than on the PC, although you have to pay for it. I love the achievements the xbox gives you when you match a game criteria, and the gamer points are a good way of judging the competence of a fellow gamer.
The hardware is well designed, and the console is not as noisy as some people moan about. The 360 wireless controller is very comfortable, and because this is bundled along with a hard drive, I would recommend getting the premium version. I even managed to enjoy FPS on the 360, something i have never done with a console before, although a keyboard and mouse is still better. I actually prefer racing games on it, as well as games such as GTA. Its also backwards compatible with original xbox games which is good.
In conclusion, you wont get frustrated with the interface, hardware or ergonomics of the 360, and what with the relatively cheap price and exclusive games, this is undoubtedly the console to get.

The xbox 360 is an amazing machine. Great games, fantastic online, nice design. But that's where it ends....
The model has always been unreliable. Some older machines suffer from the Red Rings of death and most machines overheat and freeze at some point.
The biggest problem is that the console doesn't have anything extra that sets the technology ahead of the old XBOX. They both have hard drives and connect to live. The user interface is improved but everyting is expensive.
The 360 has the lead currently over the PS3 but the PS3 gives you so much more. A better build quality and reliability, free online play, bluetooth connection, wireless built in, full internet access...and more.
The 360 feels like it's at the end of it's cycle now whilst the PS3 is just getting started.
Just my opinion.

bought this for my son very cheap but had alot of extras to buy for it ie hard drive wireless controller and wireless connecter for the internet ethenet cable i even had to change my isp maybe it would be advised to buy the complete package if your thinking of getting x box live and also check if your isp is compatible

if you are buying a xbox 360 and you have a good quality hd tv then you will need to get a xbox that has a hdmi port at the back and most dont. the ones taht do are the new 08 models , the core arcage version has it and elite but arcade is 159 in shops with memory card, then get a hdmi lead for quality like ps3

Bought this item expecting it to work. Very disappointed when it froze within 5 mins of turning it on, then 3 red lights and not turning on at all. Was one of the faulty batch, overheats easily. Luckily resolved dispute with the seller for partial refund.

I bought the dvd because it was the 1st film that I had watched as a 16 year old at the cinema.It is what I and many others class as the introduction to martial art films.What i liked about it was the quality which couldn't have been achieved without it being redigitized.

The working order of the xbox is fine however, it has games already saved on it disproving the claim that is was brand new and unused, if i had known this i wouldnt have paid such a high price for it. The controllers were also clearly used as they had numerous scratches and dirt along the grooves. The stand also was dirty, along the botton of the stand there was a brown sticky substance covering it, which i had to clean off, not a pleasant taste as i did not know what it was. The extra green face that came with it had what can only be described in looks as a lump of snot on it, again i had to clean this off, it was disgusting. has this was a present for my boyfriends birthday i had no choice but to keep it and do my best to clean it but sadly he noticed it was used as games were still saved on the hard drive, this made me loo cheap although i did presume i was buying a brand new console. I was disgusted with the condition of the console and was greatly disappointed at the FALSE ADVERTISEMENT of saying it was brand new when it was clearly not. i would not buy from this seller again and would advise other not to also.
