For anyone who doesn't know Metallica this is undoubtably the best introduction to their work. It is great in so many ways further than my vocabulary will allow but hear and believe. Each track is so different and unique yet the album is one tight unit. From the guitar to the drums to the lyrics, it is a masterpiece in rock history. Should you buy it? That's not the question, it's why haven't you already got it!
great album, definitely one of metallica's best. It has some lackings however. It is more rocky than most of metallicas previous albums, however it still has some good thrashing metal songs on there, and the rock songs aint half bad either.
Highlights:
Enter sandman, a fantasticly catchy song that fans of Deep Purple will love. Not classic metallica, but it is still something that is worthy to hold the "Metallica" name.
Sad but true, classic metallica. This song makes me want to headbang so much when i listen to it walking down the streets, so i have a stress ball in my pocket...'Nuff said.
Wherever I May Roam, a fun song....about gypsies. It's a good thrash song, quite catchy.
God that failed, in hetfield's own words "That's one F***ing heavy song!"
There are other good songs on the album apart from these ones.
If you want something really heavy go for "Ride the lightning" or "Master Of Puppets" but this album is great.
Had the album for years and then all of a sudden couldn't find it, so had to get another copy. Quality music from an amazing group,i like their recent stuff but it doesn't compare to the old stuff.
its an awsome album...havnt heard it for ages, used to listen to it when i was younger. Brilliant! i have many metallica albums, and this one was missing, and i found it on here for a good price...great website to make a good deal!
Excellent CD. Proper old school metal. Previously had this on vinyl, as no longer listening to vinyl bought it on CD. Slower tracks are classics, faster tracks are all different and not like any other tracks i've listened to. Extra long tracks with rhythms that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up - get out the air guitar! I love it!
This is an album I wore down on vinyl.... Double LP on Vertigo... Its true its got to fit the mood, but the words of Hatfield are great... The guys just a poet... Self belief from the darkest place... and a realization of what is real though often not politically correct... My opinion I know... get your head around a different view... get the great hard grinding riffs... devastating rhythm chanting you on... and the memorable lead and overall feel for the entire album... Great stuff... just get a copy... NOW
One of the best rock bands in history that have been going for a long time and still are.My favourite song on this album is enter sandman.A very good solid rock album that all rock fans should own.
I love Metallica!!!!I love Metallica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very powerful album, probably one of Metallica's best. With Enter Sandman it starts off on a powerful note that makes you want to get up & play air guitar! Sad But True has to be my favourite song from this album. If your new too the metal scene, or just getting into Metallica for the first time, then this is a must and will definately get you hooked. A good followup purchase would be Master of Puppets.
Metallica rule my world with James Hetfeild and Lars Ulrich my heroes! This is my most favourite album athe momnt! What can I say? Enter Sandman! A classic! The Unforgiven! Gorgeous! All these tracks are superb! (goes to lay down somewhere in the dark to listen to this album!) :0)
One of the albums that got me into metal, metallica's chunky riffs in E will blow you away. The album explodes into life with the timeless "Enter Sandman" arguably one of the most overplayed rock songs in existence, and with good reason. A catchy riff, powerful chorus and facemelting solo combine, as it does all to often with this album to create an awesome song. Other songs of note include Sad But True, another catchy chorus, and one of the heaviest riffs written. Nothing else Matters shows a deeper ballad-style side to the band... another timeless classic. You will not be disappointed.
Very nice...Some cool sounds once again from the best metal band ever! Sad but true, the god that failed absolutely rock only one problem!!! We are missing CLIFF BURTON! The heavest bassest in the world. R.I.P Cliff.
What a classic! Buy this! It wont dissapoint you! There is something to please everyone. Gigantic riffs on Enter Sandman, Sad But True and The God That Failed and powerful ballads The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters. From the first listen you will be hooked.
If you like anything by Metallica then buy this, you will not be disappointed. It's packed with Heavy/Slow/Fast and Melodic songs. It is truely a piece of art. Probably Metallica's finest album =] It has most of Metallica's mainstream hits, such as "Enter Sandman,Sad But True,Wherever I May Roam,The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters". Great Production,Great Songwriting,Overall Great Album =] Check it out. Peace out,Hope this Review helps.
This album Rocks throughout, each song a Masterpiece in its own right, in my eyes the last decent album Metallica released before the "Record Company" yanked their chain. It contains many hit singles, Enter Sandman and One among some. Its dark yet enlightening, and a must have for all true headbangers!!!
This is a great album but is by no means their best. It has some classic songs including `Enter Sandman`, `The Unforgiven`, Sad But True` and `Nothing Else Matters` but is not a patch on their previous albums `Kill `Em All` and `Master Of Puppets`. I would recommend this album to any one who likes heavy metal and wants to hear the masters at work!
Every song on this album is great. But the reason for me writing this review is to point out how biblically amazing and breathtaking the song 'Nothing else matters' is. It is in my opinion, one of the best songs, lyrically, musically and emotionally; in the world, ever.
Released in 1991, the album 'Metallica' (or more often called 'The Black Album') is Metallica's biggest selling record. Introducing a wide variety of sounds whilst still retaining a heavy rock feel is no easy task, but Metallica have done so in this album extremely well.
Internationally recognised tracks such as 'Enter Sandman', 'The Unforgiven' and 'Nothing Else Matters' are among those on the album, as well as other great classics such as 'Wherever I May Roam' and 'My Friend Of Misery'. Every fan of heavy rock should own at least one Metallica album, and The Black Album is their best work.
Combining meaningful lyrics, amazing guitar riffs and solos, and great song writing, 'The Black Album' is must buy for any heavy rock / metal fan!
