My grandson loves this film so I bought the dvd for him to watch when he visits - but I watch it more than he does! I love it - an excellent film for both young and grown-up children.
My child's favourite. Very funny to see animated animals' faces. Good for children to learn about animals, places and adventures. Never know what to expect next.
Alex the Lion, Melman the hypochondriac Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo leave the safety of Manhattan Zoo to bring back their runaway friend, Marty the Zebra who has escaped in search of 'the wild'. Unfortunately during their road trip around New York they are captured and shipped out of the country - only to end up in Madagasgar - where events take a strange turn and friendships are strained.
Whilst no in the same league as Shrek, this film benefits from some strong voice casting (Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Chris Rock), but it is the supporting characters who steal the film consistently. Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Ali G) voices the brilliantly egotistical lemur King Julian and the idiosyncratic monkeys and 'great escape' obsessed penguins are scene stealers at every turn. Buy this film - you will not be disappointed - plenty for both children and adults to like.
Madagascar, for those of you who don't know is an animated film about a group of zoo animals who get stranded on the island of Madagascar when being transported from their home in New York zoo. I bought this film for my 3 year old son after showing him what films were available on ebay at the time and he chose the one with the bright colours and animals as any 3 year old would! The film itself has characters with differing attributes which often causes conflict with sometimes laugh out loud consequences and at other times appear to be trying to hard. The jokes and scenes are of the ilk of 'something for everyone' with adults being catered for with tasteful jokes that 'go over the youngsters heads'
The film itself is one I would recommend for slightly older children with a longer concentration span due to the length but my 3 year old will watch it in 2 sittings and thoroughly enjoy the adventures of Melman, Gloria, Marty and Alex.
HMMMM YOU CAN WATCH THIS OR THE WILD AS ITS THE SAME STORY REALLY! In Madagascar the hero -lion- has to go insearch of his friend a zebra who escapes to find the wild and accidentally ends up crated off with his friends-lion, giraffe and hippo- who whilst on a ship get thrown over board and end up in the wilds of madagascar!! (my mates dad ran a bar there! hiya nina if your reading!!-) Now the wild has the hero -yup a lion- have to rescue his son she accidentally gets shipped to the wild in a .yawn.crate. however he and his buds - squirrel and girrafe and koala bear- commandeer a ship to save him from the wild!. so two stories for the price of one!! In madagascar there is some in jokes for us adults and it did entertain me, it will entertain the kids defiantly as there is plenty of slapstick comedy and chris rock is at his best, -loved the lemurs , -i like to move it move it dance number!!!- Also the penguins add another dash of slapstick to keep us moms and dads amused! All in all a good film for young and old and defiantly one that the kids will watch again and again, probably you too to see bits you missed last time-. keep it on for the end credits!!! Watch that old lady shake her bootay lol
