Love Actually (DVD 2004)

You either love him or you hate him !!!! I am a fan and have enjoyed most of hugh Grants films. This is no exception. It is full of great entertainment.

This film is a feel good movie and will ensure you have a smile on your face throughout.

It is not just a chick flick but can be enjoyed by both.

The writer responsible for the biggest British hits of the last ten years - Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary - directs this vibrant romantic comedy, blending ambition with good sense by filling the profuse parts of his multi-storied script with excellent, experienced actors, and rising young stars.

Ten stories intertwine, loosely connected by friends of friends, family and next-door-neighbours. There's the new, bachelor prime minister (Hugh Grant) falling for the teagirl (Martine McCutcheon); his sister (Emma Thompson) suspecting her husband (Alan Rickman) may stray; her mate (Liam Neeson) grieving over his wife's death; his stepson (Thomas Sangster) longing for a girl from school...

The writer (Colin Firth) heartbroken in France; his newlywed friends (Chiwetel Ejiofor and Keira Knightley) whose best man (Andrew Lincoln) acts oddly; their Yank friend (Laura Linney) who wants a beau in Blighty; the sex-starved Brit (Kris Marshall) heading to the sexed-up United States; his best mate's buddy (Martin Freeman) falling for a pornstar stand-in.

And bestriding it all, Bill Nighy is brilliant as a washed-up Rod Stewart-alike rock singer, whose coarse cover of the Four Weddings... theme song is climbing the charts towards a seasonal number one: "Christmas," he sings, "is all around."


Inevitably, some strands are almost forgotten and actors underused. A soft focus Short Cuts, the movie lacks the layered fluency of Robert Altman's work - or the hard edge. But while there's enough treacle to turn a bee diabetic, it is not without raw emotional moments - with Thompson outstanding in a tear-duct tingling scene.

You can almost see Curtis pressing the emotional buttons, but he does it so well you won't care. Warm, bittersweet and hilarious, this is lovely, actually. Prepare to be smitten.

When the film starts in an Airport with a voice over by Hugh Grant,just listen to it, every word he says is true. The film I think is quite true to people's lives. There are always people in the world, not just in this country who love someone but can't be with them, or their husbands/partners are having affairs, and dealing with a death of a loved one and coming to terms with it. On a lighter note, it is a real feel good film even with all the sad parts there's a lighter side with fun. But what i think makes the film complete is the sound track. Music for every occasion.
This film makes and sad at parts and laughing in others.

Yes, it's corny, it's unbelievable and yes Gordon Brown has been watching for tips, his remarkable resemblance to Hugh Grant in this film is astounding! The film shouldn't work on paper, too many characters, plots, coincidenses...etc.............BUT it works, into a masterpiece of English cinema (and with our "cute British accents" it was bound to appeal to the ladies accross the pond) A great cast including Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Alan Rickman and many many other brilliant actors. Very funny, charming, querky and VERY corny but you love it really! I will not give the plot away like other idiotic reviewers as that steals the fun. Buy the DVD NOW!

As a chick flick fan, i totally enjoyed this film. Excellent preformances fron Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson throughout the movie.

This is a real 'feel good' film. Well scripted, acted and photographed. Just right for viewing on a wet, cold evening.

This is a great film with lots of differant story lines in it,,,theres always lots going on in the film but its easy to understand and follow the storylines.the film is happy but sad at time but in all Ilove it.

This film is stunning - a film for Britain to be proud of. It has an all star cast and contains everything you could want in a film - tears, laughter...and unrequited love. You fall in love with all the characters - it is a joy to watch from beginning to end. I have bought it because I will never tire of watching it. Definitely a film for a Sunday afternoon with a nice cuppa.

Another corny film that i just had to add to my collection. I know its obvious that you will have the unlikely couple falling in love but not realising it, or rather one of them will and the other one gets the idea later when it looks like all is lost so has to go on the hunt to find the girl and win back her heart again. Yes what lovely funny mush but great to watch curdled up on the sofa. Not a huge fan of Hugh Grant but think tht he was quite good in this. And get the costumes would love to have one just like the one the octipus has in the school play lol.

To be short and to the point,this film is brilliant,funny and full of love.The only let down is the 6/10 ending but we will watch it over and over again.A great cast for a great film....kop-mem

This is a great movie approaching the quality of the film Notting Hill produced a few years earlier. There is romance and humour with good actors / acting and lively multiple storylines. A good watch over and over again. DVD is good value for money. Recommend to buy

I love this film without any pretentious to be a snobby film critic. I know that the director would have not get a certain critical acclaim due to which he is very commercialised film maker. But so what!? For this film making, he is brilliant as he succeeded to draw everyone viewers' attention to something important, yet would tend to be the end of your busy everyday task sheet.
Ah, after all, I believe that we love beautiful story! We love to be loved to be deceived for beautiful illusion!
