Lord Of War (DVD)

This movie is excellent.Nicolas Cage and Jared Leto play the parts so well from start to finish.
This is the tale of the rise and fall and rise of a gun runner, it's not a major movie so if you have never heard of it don't be put off.

I must admit that i only bought this because it has Jard Leto in it but i love the story lines and learnt the dark side of something i have never thought about before.

This is worth buying and i would give this a 9/10 easy

Excellent film. A million miles away from Cage's normal stuff. Based on actual events, it is a must see movie. No over the top action scenes, though at times, brutal to say the least. Excellent story that was well acted and well directed (in a similar fashion to Goodfellas/Casino with lots of voice-overs and an excellent soundtrack) DO NOT MISS!!!

The arms dealer is dishonest with everyone except the audience in his narration of his life and tactics. Jack Valentine the cop on his trail abides by the law and finds when he finally has enough evidence to charge that a presidential directive releases Yuri Orlov, rather like the UK order to suspend the Serious Fraud Office's enquiry into BAE's supply of arms to Saudi Arabia. Funny but covering a serious topic. Nicolas Coppola shines.

Based on actual events, this black comedy-drama stars Nicholas Cage as international arms smuggler Uri Orlov. The story follows Uri from his humble beginnings as a Soviet immigrant in 1970s Brooklyn and peaks with his involvement in selling off the stockpiled arsenal of post-Cold War Ukraine to among other top clients the sadistic African dictator Andre Baptiste, Sr. (Eamonn Walker). Jared Leto co-stars as Uri's little brother Vitaly, whose conscience and a burgeoning cocaine problem get in the way of business. Ethan Hawke is good as a sanctimonious Interpol agent with a vendetta against Uri, but the film's biggest dose of onscreen gravitas comes from Walker, whose Baptiste seethes with a heavy, serpent-like malevolence. Written and directed by Andrew Niccol, the film makes fine use of the brisk stream-of-consciousness narration style that Martin Scorcese brought to the true crime genre with 'Goodfellas' (1992), and a near constant flow of action and classic rock songs that ensure a speedy, riveting ride through three decades of global carnage. Cage, who coproduced, lets his patented oddball magnetism slowly change polarity, until viewers realise they've been led into a moral quagmire by falling for his self-delusory spiels about supply and demand, making this one of the bravest and most jet-black comedies of its decade.

must admit he ain't one of my fav actors but after this film hes performed so well in be watching alot more of his movies ...its an excellent true story just goes to show people like him do have to exist...but at the end of the day no matter what the worlds biggest arms dealer will be American president...lol

This movie on the surface appears to contain two elements I personally dislike, Nicolas Cage and mindless killing.

However the director and script writer have woven together a fabulous tail which questions moralitiy whilst also allowing the viewer to 'side' with the main arms dealer (Cage).

Cage peforms wonderfully and his dry, know it all humour makes this a highly original and enjoyable piece of cinema.

With the ever dependable Eyhan Hawke as the main antagonist, the movie has great performances but, the set design, cinematography (open 2 minutes is unbelievable) and even the romantic story is a damn good effort (not like star wars attack of the clones)!

All in all the mutts nuts!

Yet another brilliant film with Nicolas Cage playing his part as an illegal weapons importer/exporter, selling weapons to countries behind the govrments back. An absolute must for any Cage fan!!

Nicolas Cage as an international arms dealer is highly convincing as his vocal tones and appearance in the film make him almost likeable despite knowing his trade.
Lord Of War itself exposes the crookedness of the international arms trade in which Orlov takes a main role. Based on true events, the film allows an insight into heartless warmongery and how guns are more of a threat than nuclear missiles. The hipocritical life Orlov leads mirrors the life of anyone with secrets and makes us realise what happens if secrets are kept from the ones we love

Removes the lid of feigned respectability of those in the arms, war and death industry. Nicholas Cage catches the melodrama completely. There are few redeeming features about someone selling death, they can only operate their sickening 'trade' behind cloaks of anonimity and subterfuge, and Cage gives the viewer many opportunities to loathe, hate and somehow admire the character he plays so convincingly. Filmed with drabness to the forefront this is a film you wished you'd paused but never will, the message is clear, strong and with a taste of acid.

When the story finally starts to get moving its predictable and boring. Cage does some very average acting, not one of his best films.

I am a big Nicholas Cage fan, but have to say this was not one of his better films! I have put the film on four times and still have not made it to the end of the film.

I just cant get into it and the story line is a struggle. Two other people I know that have seen the film said the same.

I thought this film was poor, bad storyine, bad acting. Generaly just bad I wouldn't reccomend. It's boring and predictable.

i brought this dvd for my son for christmas... he had seen a small bit of it on tv and wanted to see the rest.. he really likes the film with lots of guns and fighting, in the underworld of weapon sales.

A great film which portrays the reality of today's world. Money, power but most of all - love. better than most of today's movies like X-man and so on. Fantasy but no reality.

Nicholas Cage was superb in this film. A very good close 2nd to Face Off. Highly reckommended. I originally bought it as an impulse buy but glad I did.

My wife and I did not enjoy the movie. It was definately not a typical Nicholas Cage movie. Not much action and no real story line. My wife did not bother watching to the end and I found it rather boring. It seemed like they were trying to promote guns rather than make a good movie. Would not recommend it to any of my friends. A friend (17 years old) of the family who normally enjoys this type of movie, said it was stupid. Don't waste your time on this one, you not missing anything...

I recently purchase this film as i had heard some good reviews about it and i also brought it because i love the actor Nicholas Cage.In this particular film he plays a soviet arms dealer who sells guns to anyone who has enough money to buy from him so we are talking about the arms dealer industry.My thonghts was the story was good and some of the acting was superab.What i didnt like was it was slow in some parts and a took a while to get going.
