Brilliant Looks and Performance, Poor Connectivity

a product from Logitech should have been excellent, but for this particular Blue tooth desktop set. I am afraid your expectations will not be as you could have expected from a £120 price tag.

Pros: Excellent, very precise mouse and fast. touch controls at left side of keyboard for multimedia lovers. quick functions buttons are very handy. LCD display keeps you informed of many things, including the user logged in. etc.

Cons: loses Blue tooth connection often. however, recent drivers update had to some extent fixed that problem, but still have experienced connection lost sometime. that was particularly bad when you are in chat, messaging. also, a delay in usage will cause a repetitive letters types in. this particularly is very bad when you are typing in password and you even don't know what you have written. I first thought that its with me only, but many of my friends that share experiences on the Computer Hardware support forums and using this keyboard asked me if I am having some trouble, it meant, that I wasn't alone.

I had managed to use this desktop set for more than a year, even with that connection problems. I loved it until recently I sold it out due to upgrade.

this product could have been worth 5 star, if and only if it hasn't got this Connection problem.

Final Verdict: if you want to impress people, this is one of the products. if you want to offend friends on chat due to delay in replying, or get your bank accounts frozen due to repetitive wrong passwords entered, once again this is the product. overall recommended, but with restrictions. your patience will work well in this case.

  Poor Keyboard/Mouse Response via Bluetooth
Review created: 20/06/08

I bought this set as a upgrade from my Logitech MX 3100 (RF Wireless) and to be honest i am not impressed.

Why? well first of all, the keyboard keeps losing bluetooth connection every now and then which eventually gets annoying.

Also, if you are a gamer, then the keyboard becomes unresponsive after a few seconds when not being used, then you have to double press a key to get the keyboard to respond again, which when gaming is not very viable.

I decided to go back to the MX 3100 because you get non of the above and in my eyes is a much better laid out keyboard with more quick launch buttons and is responsive when pressed, no delays.

All in all a poor keyboard/mouse set for the price, if you want a responsive all round set then look elsewhere, maybe stay away from bluetooth sets all together and look around for cordless RF sets which i seem to prefer and work alot better and are alot cheaper.

  Logitec Cordless mx 5000

this keyboard and mouse work very well and i have never had the slightest problem. install the original driver that came with the box and then download the latest drivers from logitech and it will work 100%. i tried this on windows xp pro and not vista so i cannot say what it will be like on vista.
one drawback is if you intend to use the keyboard in a dark room you cannot see the display on the keyboard but this may be intended as it would drain the 4 batteries that are fitted inside the keyboard. you could fit several leds yourself above and below the display something like on a mobile phone display and build this as a unit inside the keyboard.
another slight problem is the mouse. this comes with a sealed battery which you cannot remove so therefore you cannot replace the battery when it discharges. it takes around 2-3 hours to recharge the battery. some people may leave the mouse on constant charge which is not very good for the battery life span. when you charge this battery it needs to be fully charged and then discharged over use and not topped up every day. one solution to this is to buy the same mouse again. so now you have 2 mice. fully charge one and use it. when the lights on the mouse gets to the bottom green led put the spare mouse on charge. when the first mouse battery is flat you now have a spare fully charged mouse and you can carry on working. do not charge the dead battery on the first mouse yet. wait untill the replacement mouse gets to the first green led and then recharge your original mouse. the battery should last about a week so you now have something to do each week. the alternative is keep it topped up and buy a new mouse every 6 months or so as you will ruin the battery over time.
the keyboard keys have stickers and not engraved letters on the keys. i have read elsewhere that these stickers are known to come off. this gives the keyboard a cheap and tacky appearance. logitech maybe saved 1 pence on the price of the keyboard by using stickers.
there are no caps letter lights or other lights on the keyboard but when you press the caps lock key it will beep and a message will show on your screen which saves you looking down at the keyboard.
all in all it is a nice keyboard and mouse and looks very modern and stylish its also expensive for what it is. on a scale of 1-10 i would give it 8. logitec needs to review the design slightly and put in a switch to light up the keyboard display so you can have it off or on. get rid of the stickers on the keyboard keys. the mouse battery need to be sorted so it can be replaced. logitec have sealed the mouse so you cannor replace the battery for a reason: to make more money so we keep having to replace something that works perfectly well if only you could recharge the dead battery. yet another throw away item designed by logitec and another £40 or so to replace it. buy yourself a spare mouse and use them alternatively and save a lot of money.
one last thing concerning the mouse. when you do not use the mouse it turns itself off to save power and the green leds will flash every 30 seconds or so. this is normal. there is a switch to turn the keyboard and mouse on and off to save power.

I like the fact that being wireless it reduces the clutter on the desktop,
Unfortunately the Bluetooth connection can be a problem to set up and can loose its setup at any time, also the keyboard keys are not very positive.

The item arrived well packaged in the original packaging, it works reasonably well but not all of the extrs work; this is probably either my or my computers problem. The only complaint I would have is that the keyboard and mouse arrived very grimy, I spent the best part of half a hour cleaning this but this may be due to my putting presssure on the seller to send me the thing as he had been working on the nightshift for the week after the auction was ended.
