Takes me back to my child hood. Good chilled out album which is really easy listening.Old album that might get over looked nowadays but well worth a try. 8/10 in my eyes.
I brought this when it was first released on vinyl, it was on my hifi (how old!!) non stop then, 18 years on got it on CD and again its playing non stop, this is one of those cds which will stand the test of time..George, sings his songs with true deep emotion it really stands in his meaningful lyrics.
an intensely personal trip through a difficult time in the artists life, giving many hints as to the problems encountered by adults in changing times and circumstances both professionally and emotionally. beautifully constructed with sonorous melodies and lyrics that command further scrutiny to absorb the pain and sorrow, that finally leaves you with a hint of hope for the future. blends seamlessly with the newer album patience, wherupon the journey continues, furthering and fostering the hope contained within the previous songs. just class.
This album from Mr Michael may be one of the best album's of his career but I can't help thinking that when listening to it that there are some failings...I would not have been mistaken in the earlier years of his career after "Faith" that he could have urinated on a record and it would have gone to number one...I am not that excited about the sound of this album as it sounds a bit mechanical in parts and the backtracks can be to overpowering at times some of the sound clumps it's way through the listener's head like hob nail boots and could maybe have been refined more...it almost gives me a feeling of being rushed through the recording process and also have feeling that some of these tracks are not Michaels best efforts either more of "George what have you got lying around at the moment to use"...Having said that the songs do have a quality to them which is helped along by the fine vocals too and if the listener is patient can get used to the lows of the album...to sum up I feel that this album could be the reason why George became a "professional slave" and went to court with Sony...after all that I still battle to say that this is just a 4 star album and would say to George "could do better" but what the hell do I know??? good luck
I had this on tape back in the day. Loved it, lost it because of changing cars etc. Bought a bargain off ebay now back in my present car. Everyone should have this cd in there collection. I am into rock and indie but the vocals, instrument arrangement and lyrics are brilliant on this cd. Reccomend to anyone who likes good music. To sum it up a very good mellow driving cd which could have you singing your heart out or crying at the lyrics and very powerfull singing. Excellent..............
Been wanting this album for ages as lost my copy. Spotted it on ebay, won it at 99p (bargin!) and I am so pleased it is back in my CD collection. The quality was good excellent - good as new!
i just think it's great- every song is strong, no weaknesses by way of lyrics, music, instrumentation or production. a credit to george michael, really shows off his ability/credibility as a singer and songwriter. no surprises it's one of Q magazines top albums of all time.
I love this CD and value it as a major part of my George Michael collection. As i have recently given away my tape (cassette) version of this particular album, i was very happy to find this classic George Michael album on CD format, and bought it knowing i'd be able to sing along to my old favourites again.
The CD contains a few songs that actually make my hair stand on end, namely track 3, 'They won't go when i go', which has wonderful piano running alongside George's voice to capture your attention.
'Praying for time' is also included on the CD and again the combination of vocals and percussion is breathtaking.
The album contains 10 tracks, and was made in 1990. This will stay in my heart forever. Angela.
