LG KU990 Viewty Mobile Phone

I just love this phone, smooth to use in every way. The little pen comes in handy for web browsing and texting with qwerty.
I didn't really want a 5MP camera but it doesn't hurt :).
The web browsing is divine, with full page view and all. The menu system is quick and intuitive but doesn't allow for much customisation like Sony Phones.
If you want to browse the web, check emails, sync your calendar, to-do list and take great pictures, get it right now.

The item was exactly what I was looking for, the price was great and so was the quality. The delivery was quick and all the accessories were all in working order. The phone arrived safely and I couldn't of asked for a better transaction!

I found the choice for my next phone pretty hard. Ultimatly it came down to N95, Viewty or K850. I dismissed the N95 on cost and the fact its ugly and ive never liked Nokias. I fancied the K850 but reviews seemed to imply it wasnt the force it should be.
I had already been impressed by a freinds LG shine. I really liked the quality of it, it was way beyond my K810 and generally seemed a good phone.
There is also little doubt the Viewty is one of best looking phones in its class, plus it carries an extremly capable camera. So i got one.

Up close it lacks the quality feel of the shine, the back is bit loose and the front has cheap looking buttons. But it carries off the silver look well considering. All the buttons, covers etc are excellently designed. Certainly cosmetically it beats the cheap and nasty K810 to a pulp.

Its also a joy to use, like many the touch screen interface was a big worry before i got it, but it works superbly. The only grumbles being it can be a touch awkard to scroll, the buttons take up most of the screen and it doesnt always work first press on menu options. So easy to text, easy to navigate. Although not quite as versatile or rounded as my old K810

Which leads me to its problems and why i marked it average.
Biggest issue is the memory card. 2GB max, we are in 2008 ffs. Yes it takes 8gb hd but it becomes slow and clumsy. It wont write direct to it (so pics and vids have to goto phone memory first, which gets used up fast) and copying music to the 8gb card and creating playlists is a nightmare.

And the camera, Im getting about 1 out of 5 good shots. Yes, in good light and a steady hand it takes a fantastic picture, but most times its blured and over exposed. Im already starting to use my K810 for quick family snaps despite its lower quality.
And the bluetooth doesnt connect to my car properly, it needs to be reconnected to get audio output... how lame.

The video recording makes up for the hit and miss stills though. I was seriously impressed here. It also plays .avi files well on the big screen.

Overal-
Ive marked the phone average, but there is no denying its still a great phone. Just its faults are annoying. The K810's faults were cosmetic, this phone is the other way around.
That said, one of its problems is its trying to be a lot. And to be fair it makes a good job of it.

I love my new phone, was received in good condition as described, works well, Lg viewty is a cool mobile to own, have had the Prada before, which was slow, and this phone is quick, and great to use.

When you first use the LG it feels strange not having buttons, you'll hit the wrong keys and swear at it, but stick with it. Once you're used to it, it really is a great little gadget. I say little, it's bigger than most mobiles but so big as to be intrusive. The camera is fantstic, unlike any I've seen on a mobile, only problem is that the manual focus wheel is around the lense so end up with your finger over it. Full internet browsing is great. As yet I've not found the Cup Of Tea button, it must have one becuase it does pretty much everything else!

great phone a little tricky to handle when taking a picture or showing someone a pic as it has a touch screen and if it gets knocked then you lose where you were or worse otherwise cool gadget good photos and clear sound from mp3 player .

Ok I'll be brief as I haven't owned this for long... just a couple of pointers if you're thinking of buying a viewty
1. They scratch very easy! I'm used to throwing my nokia n73 around but this i wont put in the same pocket as my loose change. If you put it down on any surface you have the choice of scratching the screen or the camera lens that has no cover.
2. You have to use the ring on the lens for several functions which is a real pain.
3. The pen thing that comes with it... I've got relatively normal fingers and I'm finding I have to use this pen thing a lot or it wont work or I hit 3 things at once... so you have to carry this thing around with you as there's nowhere to store it apart from on a string hanging from the side of it.
4. There might be a way out of this one but if you don't touch anything for 2 seconds and it goes on standby! You have to constantly push this button on the side to carry on.. beginning to get on my t***
5. Web browsing is a breeze. I'm using on 3 Network so have skype running in the background which is excellent.
6. You can actually run this with an 8GB miniSD contrary to what LG say, if you don't know how then google it or visit a site that has ku999 in the title! 8Gb means lots of music and vids available instead of carrying the other brick, I mean ipod with me. I dont use the ipod anymore as this does the job nicely. Couple it with a nice set of bluetooth headphones and your away.
Okay its got a lot of bad things going for it but it is a pretty phone with lots of features worth well more than the £100 or something you'll pay on ebay. Just make sure when you buy yours you also get a couple of screen protectors and a case to put it in. Or if you've got the money buy an iphone 3G. If you havn't I think this is your next best thing.

I completly killed my old Nokia, so went for the swanky LG.
The only bad points I have is the whole... not having a keypad thing
and that the alarm doesnt wake me. i don't have a clue why, but I've been late soooo many times for work since getting this phone.

great phone. LOVE it. have to get used to the touch screen and the texting..
disappointment to it.. is its slow loading. but overall i love it =D

recommended... i also had the G800... the viewty is miles better than the G800 so decided to give it my sister LOL

i had a few more scraches than i was led to believe by the seller but i am happy all the same i bought this phone as a colector

I chose this item for its many features. Compared to other mutli phones on the market i found this one reasonably priced. I found it easy to operate, i didn't know how i would find the touch screen but i got used to it quiker than expected. The camera and MP3's were not that important when buying this product but the quality on both is excellent and i actually use them more than making calls and sending texts.

off all the phones i have had over the years this is the best so far. for something so sophiticated is very esy to get round, doing text is great with the key board i like it i realy do fantastic size screen only small negative is battery life could do with more but it aint a problem.

Brilliant Quality for the money. Camera is brilliant taking crystal clear photo's with an easy interface. The touch screen is great allowing you to navigate through the menu with ease. 10/10.

At first I was worried about buying this mobile as I am used to the WindowsMobile5 phones however there doesn't seem to be any Windows mobiles with a camera better than 2 Megapixel, so it was an easy choice to pick the LG Viewty instead with its 5 Megapixel mechanical zoom camera with flash and anti-shake built in.
I'm very happy with the LG Viewty and will continue to shun Windows Mobile phones until they make a massive improvement in the cameras.
Overall this is a great looking phone and with a huge library of J2ME Java software available you can do pretty much anything with it except for a decent GPS Navigator (using bluetooth GPS receiver).

PROS:
very cool looking mobile,
light,
robust (it survived an accidental 1m drop onto concrete then bounced down several concrete steps! it only had a couple of scratches.),
but a must buy is the scratch protector films for the screen!,
excellent 5 Megapixel camera with flash,
works with my 4GB micro SD memory card,
big clear and bright colourful display,
it will play DivX and 3gp videos,
some great 3rd party J2ME Java software is available (games, Opera browser, talking translators!, Google Maps, etc.. etc..)
touchscreen is still easy to use with a finger instead of the stylus,
very slick and easy to use software,
excellent music player with great sound,
the headphones can be swapped for any standard headphones,
internet browsing is easy but even better if you install the Opera browser instead


CONS:
it doesn't correctly recognise the external SD memory size for >2GB although it can still use the extra space,
can't find any decent GPS navigation software that runs on the Viewty and which works with an external bluetooth GPS receiver - this was easy with my older Orange SPV-C550 Windows Mobile phone,
battery life is short but as long as I charge it every day it's useable,
there's no real library functions for the music player like you get on windows mobile phones so not quite so user friendly,
you can't plug in headphones and charger at the same time - why would I want this? so I can plug my Viewty into the car stereo Aux input and listen to the music through my car stereo Plus still charge the phone from the cigar lighter (maybe there's some 3rd party connector available to do this, if so I haven't seen one yet?),
changing the speaker volume is difficult without going back into the music or video player it would certainly benefit from a couple of extra little buttons on the side for volume control

The phone i bought was fanstastic coulnt of asked for more. It was literally brand new and the price was awesome. It came with all the extras and the original box. Thank you very much!

it a handy little phone love the camera was not too keen on getting LG as they are previously been bad phones but this ones great. no problems. Has made me like LG again

I wanted an LG Viewty for a while, I liked the idea of having a 5mp camera on a mobile phone - saves taking a phone and a camera when going out. I always thought they seemed a bit manly though (I am a proper pink fluffy girlygirl) so I was shopping around, seeing what else was on the market when I came across a purple one! I know that this is Orange's version but as I was already on this service provider with my current phone (samsung). I got a bit excited and ordered it there and then!

This is a great phone and I LOVE the camera. Takes some great pictures and is simple to use. There is a camera on the front of the phone - for voice calls -and one on the back but you can use either when snapping. I would recommend this phone to anyone.

I thought the touch screen would cause problems but it is well designed and works properly.

Couple of things I don't like about the phone:
- When you are typing a message and press the space bar (on the keyboard layout) sometimes it thinks you are pressing exit - can cause some annoyance!
- There is no 'delete all' for the messages (well im yet to discover one if there is) and you can store a fair few messages on it so when it gets full it is a bit of a pain.

They are the only two down points about it, other than that I think I can safey say that this will be coming around with me until it falls apart! Unless they bring a pink one out that is!!!

Great phone, sensative touch screen yet easy to use with some good features. Would highly recomend to anyone thinking about buying one!

I bought the LG viewty for the touch sensitive feature. I thought the phone was better than expected after getting used to the initial teething problem. The bluetooth feature was difficult to activate! I still havn't managed to turn it on, and i've come to the conclusion of faulty batch!
Overall I give it a good rsting.

The phone itself looks top quality..it has a great camera on it..we know no longer need professional photographers...lol. touchscreen can take a while to get used to but this happens quickly..Also, with the ability to insert a memory card you can store more music and photos etc than you could on previous phones..The screen could get damaged easily, however you can get a protector for the screen and for the phone itself..costs from 99p-£2.00...its cheap no matter what and can keep your phone looking good.

Great phone, I would deffo say it's the Dogs B*******. Takes great pictures, easy to use and I lurve the touch key pad, plus it looks kinda cool too!!!.....Ab Fab all round:)

well, this phone is absolutly amazing. it beats the iphone on so many levels, and when you hack the system to use say : the vista theme you have yourself a amazing value pda with amazing camera quality and a addid built in phone!!. i cant fault anything with this phone. i have had the iphone and many other high spec phones, and this is the very best

This is a pretty cool phone; it really shows where we are technologically speaking. It is like the younger brother of an iphone yet with a much better camera. I've had it for a week now and I am still getting nice design surprises. I upgraded from an LG shine, and could make a long list of the improvements of user friendliness. This phone has had mixed reviews but in this case it is due to different points of view. It's not the best phone in the world yet it's a massive jump up from the ordinary.
