I have had a Kirby for about 20 years - and it is still as good as when I bought it. Solid reliability - but heavy with it. A few of years ago, when I last had it serviced, the Kirby engineer demonstrated their then current model, one of the "G" range (I think it may have actually been the Ultimate G model, known as diamond). I was so impressed by the power drive mechanism, which made it feel lighter to push around than even the lightest of cheap plastic vacuums, that I was tempted to buy it. That was until I was told the price! Having looked at Kirby's recent models, I have come to the conclusion that they do not alter their design very much. The changes are mostly cosmetic. I suppose it is difficult to really improve them technically. However, the diamond maintains the high standard and adds one small extra feature - a low power switch to allow it not to suck doormats off the floor. This has always been a problem with my old one. However, the real bonus with my new ebay purchase is the power drive. Its a joy to use. I hear that Kirby's latest model has actually incorporated more plastic components, which may make it lighter (and cheaper to make?). Since the G series are already so easy to manoeuvre this is unimportant and is a reduction in quality as far as I am concerned. Hence the title!
i bought this hoover because i already own an early version of this item..a legend...wich has worked hard all its life and is still ready for buisness i decided to buy a later model because i believe that that kirby range far exceed above and beyond quality with built to last performance.! apart from the fact that when i received the first machine i had no accessories with it, the later machine had all its accessories with it also a great hepa filtration system to help all you asthma sufferers out there and tech drive which is apparently a nasa design drive system that lends a big hand to the hoovering which without wishing to sound sexist a majority of female hooverers find helpful ...its built to last ...its heavy ..you dig ? its sucks ! so hard in fact you can even change a light bulb with this puppy..! fact.. finally ..its shiney !
i bought my kirby when i was living in the usa for $2100.00 and i bought it back to the uk and i run mine on a transfomer and i wouold never go back to our old hoovers we have over here as they are just a watse of money, when you buy a kirby it is like haveing a dog it is for life and the kirby is my best friend
the kirby came on to ebay at a time when i had lost a bid on another machine.these kirby's were fetching between £100-£200.the description said it was working and needed to be sold, the bid at that time was about £20-£25,and i bid £50,p+p was £20.unbeleavably it only reached £36, so what had i got.well i'd got a used kirby g4,in working condition including hose ,upright attachment, shampoo attachments, and 5 new bags.the only downside being, alittle paint spill, and no instuctions.but this was stated in the description.so overall i was more than pleased.
Really liked it on presentation but it was rather expensive for me. Then I found it on e-bay at reasonable price. Now I own it and very happy. Before that I owned Thomas Twin TT - no comparison in convenience. You just take it and clean carpets and hard floors with it. Also have Turbo Brush to clean beds and etc. It consumes only 635 W comparing to my old Thomas which consumed 1300 W for maximum suction power. I don't have shampooing kit - may be in future I'm planing to buy it.
just does the job with ease;used to sell them but could not afford one. Then my girl friend bought one home and i liked it ;then we split up and i missed the kirby. These are built to last and 25 years is not unknown ! The early machines are heavy and not as popular as a dyson for example;however the dyson does really well but does it last 25 years? £1,300 is the typical price for a new machine so try and pick one up which has a good service record as parts can wear out but nothing is too dear! The motor as long as it has not been abused will last as long as filters have been changed at regular recommended times. Buy one and get a genuine kirby approved service engineer to strip it down every year and replace belts and brushes and you will have a machine with emense capabilities at your finger tips! Doing the hoovering has never been such fun as with a kirby!
