Hmmmm. Well, I'm not really sure about this. I love the idea of trying your hardest to do the impossible, however many people tell you that you can't do it and from that perspective it is an uplifting film. HOWEVER, although I'm well aware of the miracles performed by CGI etc., I am not at all happy about a film that shows a creature being half-drowned, being killed by colliding with a cliff and dying in a snowstorm. The shots of seagulls fighting each other (with blood and gore in evidence) over scraps is also pretty upsetting. OK, I'm as soft as muck, but I didn't think I'd ever watch it again, so my local Age Concern shop had it.
I first bought the video a LONG time ago but lost it in a house move. I think it is a beautiful inspiration story and the music is fantastic, but then again I just love Neil Diamond. Would recommend it if you need a boost in your self confidence or if you just like looking at beautiful scenery.
I was not sure what to expect from this story, I hoped it would not be a sad story. Instead it was very thought provoking as what happened to Jonathan happens in everyday life to humanbeings .... people thinking they are better/know best. Neil Diamond's sound track was good, also I thought the scenery and photographic work was excellent. Take time to watch the seagulls in flight they truly are magnificent flyers!
I love the scenary, the music, the simple way in which the story is told mainly through images but very true to the book. I bought the DVD because I read the book years ago, and I felt the need to "renew" that spiritual journey. It is something to treasure.
