I recently had the pleasure of seeing Joan live in concert during which she featured much of this latest CD. I couldn't wait to hear the the entire CD. I have played it about 4 times and to be honest it has taken that long to "get into it". My favourite track so far is the first one, "A woman in love", as it seemlessly bridges the gap from her previous ballads to the "blues". Joan is an incredible musician.
If you're a fan of early Joan Armatrading (self titles, To the Limit), this is the one to restore your faith. An edgy, passionate, varied and raw album. Couldn't reccommend it highly enough. Top of her game. Deeply underrated artist - she goes from Ben Harper to Bobbie Gentry to Howlin Wolf to Elvis Costello to Tina Turner on here without an effort.
