Released in early 1991, singer Freddie Mercury knew that he was on borrowed time. Listening to the songs on this album, you can lyrically hear the frustration of illness. Songs like I'm Going Slightly Mad take a tongue-in-cheek look at illness, whereas the amazing These Are The Days of Our Lives will bring home the extent of the illness. This song contains Freddie's goodbye message to the fans at the end, where, at the end of the video, he looks down and laughs, before uttering the words, "I still love you". Freddie Mercury died just over two weeks after filming this video. The song was released as a double A-side single with Bohemian Rhapsody at Christmas 1991 reaching Number 1.
To end the album is the song The Show Must Go On. This is another song with a message saying that the bands name will not end even though he probably won't be around for much longer.
This is a brilliant album. Although we all knew it was close to the end for freddie...this album is possible the best work Queen produced. There isnt and adjective around to descibe how great this album is! i would recommened anyone own a copy!
This is my favourite Queen album. It has a variety of sounds while remaining obviously from the Queen "stable". You can hear that Freddie is still on form but you can detect a sad realisation that he has acknowledged that his end is now approaching from the track "Days of our lives". If you look at the track titles you may think that they give an insight to his thoughts at the stage of his life.
This is an album I have had on vinyl for many years and love it. I am trying to replace all my vinyl with CDs and Ebay is a brillaint place to do that. I love all the tracks on this album especially the title track and Headlong and the especially poignant track called The Show must Go On and of course These are the days of our Lives which was recorded shorly before Freddie died.
A throwback to the Night at the Opera Days a different Album for Queen but as always some real theatre, especially in the title track. Besides the early albums this is one of my favourites !!!
Yes, in my view anyway. I have them all and this is my favourite. A must have if you dont already have it.
The title track was released as a single in January 1991 and entered the charts at number one. The longest number one (at six and a half minutes) since Bohemian Rhapsody. Interestingly in the US, 'Headlong' (also on the album) was released instead as Hollywood were convinced that 'Innuendo' would get zero airplay. The album was released in February 1991 and it also entered straight in at number one.
Sadly later that year Freddie Mercury issued a statement confirming he had AIDS. Not more than 24 hours later he had died.
I love this album its true queen quality, i had it on tape for many years and ive not heard it it for around 6 years then cam accross it one day and thought oh great a new album for my car, i thought i would have trouble remembering the words but it all cam flooding back to me and i really did forget how fntastic it is the best is bijou a must for any queen fans that like a different view on queen
This in my opinion is queen's best studio album, the album was recorded between dec 1989-nov 1990, this album would ultimately be the last album released during lead singers freddie mercury's life.
the album has stood the test of time as the music sounds modern, the vocals on this album are excelent, the lyrical content of the songs are heartfelt and warm, but they also have a raw rock edge.
this album tackles issues relateing to the personal lives of each individual from the band who where all going through the mill, especially freddie.
also an unknown fact here are the composer's for the songs on the album as it says credited to queen.
innuendo- roger im going slightly mad- freddie headlong- brian i cant live with you- brian dont try so hard- john and freddie ride the wild wind- roger all gods people- freddie and mike moran 1988/89 delilah- freddie these are the days of our lives- roger the hitman- lyrics freddie - music brian bijou- brian and freddie the show must go on- roger
all in all, an excellent album 9.5/10
please note the album does not contain the last recordings by freddie before his untimely death, that accolade goes to the made in heaven track mother love.
in previous review author stated that freddie recorded the video to these are the days of our lives 2 weeks prior to his death, correct time of recording was may 1991.
I had been looking to buy Freddie Mercurys greatest hits CD but since it had been discontinued I had no luck. I wanted it specifically for the track "These are the days of our Lives". When I saw this CD I e mailed the seller for the play list and they replied amd it was there. It is an especially sad song with very far reaching implications of the society we live in now and with our own mortality. The CD is amazing and I still shed a tear when I hear my favourite track. A great entertainer/singer so sadly missed but he lived his life the way he wanted to - These are the days of our lives was his way of saying goodbye!
