One of the biggest box office hits of all time delivers the ultimate encounter when mysterious and powerful aliens launch an all-out invasion against the human race.
The spectacle begins when massive spaceships appear in Earth's skies. But wonder turns to terror as the ships blast destructive beams of fire down on cities all over the planet.
Now the world's only hope lies with a determined band of survivors, uniting for one last strike against the invaders - before it's the end of mankind.
War Of The Worlds gets a late 20th century make-over in this enjoyable Americans-save-the-world slice of action/sci-fi from Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich Aliens land on the Fourth of July, and it's down to US President Whitmore (Pullman) and feisty USAF pilot Captain Steven 'Eagle' Hiller (Smith) to do something about it.
The writing-producing-directing team behind 1994's Stargate up the ante with this large-scale, mulit-strand sci-fi adventure. This 1996 summer giant-killer is full of ridiculous posturing and sincerity (gung-ho presidential speeches, Smith's pre-mission wedding), but Independence Day (aka ID4) works so well, building up a sense of menace for the first hour before going for an all-out alien attack, that you go along with it regardless.
By the time Randy Quaid, as vengeful abductee Russell Casse, gets in on the action, you're willing extra-terrestrial butt to be kicked left, right and centre. And to cap it all there's the White House getting blown up. Though the denouement ploy of having Jeff Golbblum's MIT-trained TV company techie David Levinson mess up the aliens' plans by downloading a virus from his Apple Mac laptop strains credulity that little bit too far...
Verdict Insanely pompous and brilliantly exhilarating in equal measures
This is one of the many great films from Will Smith. His acting is excellant and the Other actors are perfect too. This is one of the films that dont go overboard on the effects and is believeable from my opinion as a sci-fi fan.
I wanted to buy this item, but there was a problem around the delivery. I didn't get it. I contacted whit the seller and when nothing was happened he sent back my money. He was very kind.
good movie to watch with a loved one if you like will smith movies has funny ,sad and action scenes would watch this movie over and over and neer get bored
lot of action - brilliant sound effects - good watching from beginning to end. I had already seen it but that was on VHS and the DVD quality is far superior
This is a classic Will Smith movie, full of humour, action and of course love interests. It's a tongue in cheek stab at an alien attack on the world and how of course humans come out on top... eventually. With a fairly star studded cast, it would be hard not to enjoy this movie.
I was rather displeased due to no case being with the CD, the CD was dreadfully scratched and 'slightly' damaged. Constant pausing would occure during the film. Personally, I wouldn't consider purchasing from this seller again.
a great film great affects great acting great great great you must see it i know its been on tv lots of times but still a good film for your collection.
This take on "War of the Worlds" is fun with great special effects which still hold up today. yes it has its weak/funny moments: spoiler alert! such as when Will Smith punches the alien, saying "welcome to earth" ! and when Bill Pullman as the President says "Nuke 'em!" oh dear! But overall its an enjoyable ride and Jeff Goldblum and Randy Quaid shine. (Trivia note: Mary Mcdonell who plays the first lady here graduates to President in the new Battlestar Galactica series. will real life follow fiction with Hilary Clinton?!! who knows). If you like dazzling sci-fi with tongue-in-cheek humour then this will do nicely! plus I got it at a steal on e-bay which made it even more fun!!
In my opinion one of the best, if not the best Sci-Fi film made to date. Special effects fantastic and storyline completely credible.... Superb casting.........a classic if ever there was one.
