Hard to believe this album is 7 years old - sounds as fresh as ever, provided you're a Manson fan. The singles, "The Fight Song" and "Disposable Teens". definitely stand out as the best of the crop - that'll be why they picked them then! I rarely buy one CD from a seller, partly to save on postage, but mainly I have a trawl about their selling list to see if there's anything going cheap that I might not otherwise buy at a higher price. I've bought some reasonable and some great stuff this way, and will continue to do so, but this isn't one of them I'm afraid. Aside from the singles a pretty average forgetable album - unless you're a dyed in the wool Manson fan.
Apparently written in the wake of the Columbine Killings. If you've seen 'Bowling for Columbine' by Michael Moore, this is an absolute MUST! There is not a single dud on this album. Although there aren't any of the sound experiements Manson is known for, the songs more than make up for it. It is a critical view of America today and the lyrics rip apart the American Dream. The melodies are excellent and some of the melancholia attached to the collapse of one's known existence (Good ol' US of A) seeps into the ballads. This is not an album to be without!
I love this album, it has great songs, like Disposable Teens , Lamb of God and my favourite The Nobodies. Marilyn Manson is obviously very intelligent and has a way with words that shows in his lyrics. It's a very heavy album, part of a trilogy beginning with Antichrist Superstar 1996 and then Mechanical Animals 1998.It has a lot of references to violence. This is excellent and is just pipped by Antichrist Superstar.I am into rock and metal, and this was one of the few albums of this genre that my husband would tolerate. Marilyn Manson is not just a singer in a band he is an all round entertainer who seems to like to experience life to the full which is reflected in his songs as they look to be his interpretation of life.If you listen to this then you have to listen to the others. A lot of the songs are fairly clear if you like to hear the words, and Marilyn Manson has quite a distinct voice.I enjoyed this album and hope you will too.
