David O. Selznick's production of Margaret Mitchell's Pulitzer Prize winner Gone With The Wind is "the pinnacle of Hollywood moviemaking,"( Leonard Maltin of Entertainment Tonight) . And in Maltin's view, "it looks better than it has in years." This sweeping Civil War-era romance won an impressive 10 Academy Awards (including Best Picture), and its immortal characters Scarlett (Vivian Leigh), Rhett (Clark Gable), Ashley (Leslie Howard), Melanie (Olivia de Havilland), Mammy (Hattie McDaniel) and Prissy (Butterfly McQueen) populate as epic story of enduring appeal across generations. Judged by many to be the greatest movie of all time, Gone With The Wind is an extremely exciting DVD release!

I got Gone With The Wind because its one of the best films ever made,no collection is complete without it.Great actors,Great Story and Great Direction make it a must see movie.Ideal on a saturday night with your loved one,a take-away and a good bottle of wine.Film buffs heaven.Even tho its a long film, time just passes by and the ending seems to come to soon. The relationship between Rhett and Scarlet is like to many relationships of today, where the lack of trust, and bad communication causes a lot of promblems but in reality all people need to do is just be honest with each other and say what they feel.

Gone With The Wind (DVD 2001)

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.

One of the Greatest Motion Pictures Ever Made
Review created: 27/04/08

Gone with the Wind is quite simply one of the greatest films ever made. Its a masterpiece on all levels of production: the acting is first rate, the epic story is breathtaking and awe inspiring, the cinematography and the depth of detail is extraordinary and the production values are astounding.

Vivien Leigh stars as Scarlett O'Hara, a young girl living with her family on their southern cotton plantation, Tara. She is desperately in love with Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard), an attraction which proves hopeless when it is announced that he is to wed his cousin, Melanie Daniels (Olivia de Havilland).

At a party at the Wilkes', she tells Ashley of her love for him but is spurned. Rhett Butler (Clark Gable), who has overheard their conversation, takes a fancy to Scarlett and makes a pass at her. She turns him down however, still obsessed with Ashley and painfully jealous of Melanie.

Apart from all this, Scarlett's life is perfect. However, the outbreak of the American Civil War throws everything into chaos and changes her family life and that of the whole country forever.

The film charts Scarlett's life from her early teenage years up until her adult life, charting her adventures in Georgia during the horrific attacks on the town as well as her reclaiming Tara after the war and her marriage to Rhett Butler. It also vividly chronicles the American Civil War in horrific detail, at one point depicting the massive scale of injuries as Scarlett tends to wounded soldiers.

A magnificent epic that seduces, shocks, thrills, inspires and uplifts, the film won eight Academy Awards - including Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for Hattie McDaniels' hilarious performance as Mammy, Scarlett's maid - and is an absolute classic. A must see for everyone!

Gone With The Wind DVD Review
Review created: 21/02/08

Ahhh, Gone With the Wind, that title says it all. The classic of all classics. This was the last Hollywood movie of its kind. Warning this review does contain Spoilers.

It is well acted, wonderfully photographed in vibrant technicolour and it features some of the best set pieces ever filmed in cinematic history. It was also produced by David O'Selznick, who won several Oscars for his productions.

The story is about Scarlett (Vivien Leigh), an upper-class girl who has a deep life-long love for Ashley (Leslie Howard). But he is about to marry the shy but pretty Melanie (Olivia de Havilland). So SCarlett gets married to Charles Hamilton to make Ashley jealous. However her plan doesn't work. Then her Charles get killed during the war. This is when Rhett Butler comes in (brilliantly played by Clark Gable), he tries to seduce Scarlett and announces his love for her but she is set on Ashley, even though he is married to Melanie. Then the Cavalier army (their side) starts losing the war and has to retreat to the Yankees. They then burn down Atlanta in one of the most famous scenes ever filmed. Then after running away with Melanie and her daughter, Scarlett gets back to find her mother dead and her father sick. This is when she vows never to grow hungry again.

Ashley comes back from the war after being kidnapped to find Melanie and his son but also Scarlett who still has undying love for him. Scarlett then marries again to raise tax money to stay in their home and she opens a timber business with Ashley to raise money. Then Scarlett gets attacked when shipping lumber so her new husband and Ashley go out to the area to attack the rebels. This is then where Rhett enters again and he saves Ashley but can't stop Scarlett's husband being shot. Rhett later proposes to Scarlett and they get married. However her heart is still with Ashley. After incidents where their daughter dies and Melanie dies, Scarlett realises she does really love Rhett but he leaves her with the famous line, 'Frankly my dear I don't give a damn.' But she vows to win him back, 'Tomorrow is another day.'

Overall one of the best films ever made. This is a must buy but be warned it is almost four hours long.

Gone With the Wind on DVD

I first read the book when I was 15, staying up almost all night to finish it. Many years later i finally saw the film and recently decided I wanted to see it again. However, as it's so long, I thought it would be best to own it so I could start and stop when I needed to.
It's a fantastic portrayal of Margaret Mitchell's epic about the old South during the Civil War. It is 70 years old, but the colours are so fresh and vibrant and the scenes are on a huge scale, making it a truly spectacular film still today.
It portrays the misery of war and its aftermath and what it does to the eople caught up in it. Throughout we have the figure of Scarlett O'Hara who is selfish, yet very strong and determined and brings her family through the poverty they hav fallen into.
But she learns too bitterly that money cannot buy her happiness and realises it just too late to save her own marriage to that flambouyant character Rhett Butler. It must have one of the most famous (nearly) last lines ever.

One of the easiest ways to get a referral is to do a favour for a friend and ask them to sign up in return. That way, you both can get a free iPhone!

This has always been my favourite film and I finally decided to take the plunge to buy it from ebay. One sunday afternoon I settled down to watch the film (its quite a long film) and was really enjoying it until it started skipping scenes. I took the film out to find it all scratched! Anyway, that was besides the point, the film is still a classic love story with two huge hollywood actors. I am going to purchase a new copy because I still want to own this dvd, it is a masterpiece.
