From Hell (DVD 2002)

This is yet another take on the Jack the Ripper killings that took place in London in the late 19th century. It's based on a graphic novell by the legendary Alan Moore.

Depp plays Abberline, the detective with more than a hint of Sherlock Holmes in his customs, in charge of the investigation while my fav male actor Robbie Coltrane (you know, Hagrid...) plays his sergeant. The great let down, cast wise is Heather Graham who is in there just for the looks rather than playing a believable role (I hardly think the 1880s prostitutes were all that litterate).

You know the plot so I don't have to go into it. Umpteen suggestions on who the killer (-s?) was/were has been made. Including the one suggested in the film which bashes one of the more intriguing. Check out all the facts at http://www.casebook.org/

So is it worth seeing? Absolutely, as a timekiller for those familly evenings it's a great flick. Good acting (although Depp and Coltrane have been better in other films), great atmospheare (or is that atmosfear?) and decent accents by the american actors. Much better than the pro critics gave it credit for.
