French Connection (DVD 2004)

I bought this film, simply because I had just been to New York and I was told that the Roosevelt hotel that I stayed at in midtown Manhattan was featured in some of the scenes in it. Indeed it was, but the bonus here was a superb, well crafted film with no nonsense action and drama, stunning car chases, a great cast of outstanding actors. The film is based on the true exploits of 'Popeye' Doyle, played by Gene Hackman and his partner Buddy Russo, played by Roy Scheider, who both deliver very convincing performances.
It is a film which keeps you on the edge of your seat and has a plot which will keep you in suspense and explosive action which competes with modern films, but without CGI technology or special effects.
I am not going to go into any detail about the plot or storyline, but I would heartily recommend this film to anyone who likes action, tension and an intelligent plot.
