this film is amazing. it is a reinactment of the story of how wushu styled martial arts came about. it is a gripping aciton film with lots of fighting sequals yet it also has scenes of emotion and you really become connected with the film and feel the emotions of the characters. i give the film a five star rating *****
I BOUGHT THIS DVD FOR MY HUSBAND. HE'D WANTED IT FOR QUITE A WHILE, SO WAS PLEASED, THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET IT. HE HAS WATCHED IT & THROUGHLY ENJOYED IT
Chinese high quality scenes and audio completely outclasses some Hong Kong stuff. Cycles through most of the Wu-shu genre techniques. Violent drama but in an entertaining way and the skill and fitness of the actors is astonishing. Chinese, French and Spanish languages but only English sub-titles.
Jet Li grows up to be a Wushu master who while endeavouring to restore the good name of his father's school, ends up killing a rival Master in a rage, which leads to the death of his family. He flees his home town in grief and thru the guidance of a blind girl is shown how to be a better man. With this knowledge he travels to Shanghai to help restore the good name of China, now under the heel of Western nations, by taking on and defeating their best fighters.
If like me you enjoy martial arts movies and Jet Li, then this film is a treat in the same vein as his 'Once Upon A Time In China' films. Lots of great set pieces brillaintly choreographed as ever, but maybe the wire-work is a little too over-the-top and obvious. That being said, a beautifull shot film with much about it to like.
