The impact that Marc Bolans' song-writing had at the time upon a new generation of music fans tired of the old 1960's Love Generation cliches is hard to convey today. Bolan saw the death of the hippy dream and like Dylan he turned electric. His transition from hippy gumbo to glam genius was cemented with this - the classic 1972 release 'Electric Warrior', an album which upon its intial release way back in the dark days of the early 70's opened up hearts and minds in a way never before experienced.
Now that Bolan and his glitter has long since departed we are left with the question 'Yes, but is the music any good?'. In way of an answer you need look no further than this release as for over thirty years 'Electric Warrior' has consistantly won over new legions of Bolan fans - even those that did not feel swayed by the whole Glam Rock genre.
Thanks to the superb skills of Tony Visconti as producer the sound on 'Electric Warrior' is rich, pulsating, hypnotic and sensual. It consistantly thrills and excites the senses in the way it carries the listener along on an underlying tide of rock riffs and genuine emotional lyrical expression.
If you are looking for an introduction to T.Rex and/or Bolan then you need look no further. A masterpiece of musical creation that along with Roxy Musics' debut album and 'Ziggy Stardust' by David Bowie marks the heady transition between two very important musical eras. Highly recommended!
