Disraeli Gears is a perfect blend of blues and psychedelic rock from the seminal blues-rock band of the 60s, Cream. Their sophomore album features some of the great classics of British rock, "Strange Brew", "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses".
Clapton, Baker and Bruce are at their best and make a fine example of how powerful a band with only three members can be. Clapton's raw riffs, Bruce's inventive basslines and Baker's fiery drumming compliment each other surprisingly well.
Every song on this album is unique and I can honestly say there isn't a weak track. Disraeli Gears alone contains most of Cream's best work. ("Strange Brew", "Sunshine of Your Love", "World of Pain", "SWLABR" etc.) This is an excellent example of blues-rock and the songs still sound fresh almost 40 years on today.
This is quintessential Cream and any fan of Cream or classic rock should own this album. However, I recommend you pick up the deluxe version for the extra tracks. 5/5
Cream's second studio album lacks the energy and spontaneity of their first, Fresh Cream, but it's still a cracking effort with classics Strange Brew and Sunshine of Your Love the standout tracks. It's a shame the remastering didn't bring out more clarity and separation - it all sounds a little muddy. In particular Ginger's drumming seems confined very much to the background. A little disappointing as I think the right engineer could get a lot more out of the original tapes.
During a search in my loft found a vynyl copy of this album and yearned to play it but no longer have a record player. Being keen to relive my youth I searched and was amazed to find the LP available as a remastered copy. Excellent quality sound especially through my cinema surround system with full woofer on (and neighbours out). 'Mothers lament' still makes me smile and could not resist joining in.

I bought the album 40 years ago and it was my favourite record then and it still is, the album is now completely worn out and in desperation I typed it into search and bought the CD, worrying it would have been stupidly remixed. It was fine however, so now I'm a happy hippy again. The only thing I don't like is the last track on it (I never have and I wish they'd left it out of the CD).
