Dirty Dancing (1987) still stands incredibly today well proving the point critics made about the film at the time of its release about it being a timeless classic! Dirty Dancing is simply the ultimate feel-good movie.
The chemistry between Patrick Swayze (then relativley unknown) and Jennifer Grey (who has not starred in any major production since) is positivley electric and never once strikes a false note. Its a charming story of a young, innocent teenager staying with her family at a holiday camp for her vacation who meets the exciting and rebelious dancer, Johnny, who she immediatley falls in love with. They each show each other a different side to life and vastly become lovers. But as with all good love stories there are complications.
Giving superb backing support is Cynthia Rhodes in a small but highly effective role as Penny Johnson who is forced into having an abortion and in the process must give up dancing whilst she recovers - enter Jennifer Grey. There are many fun and amusing scenes of Swayze frantically trying to teach Grey all the right dance moves whilst the touching romance between them gradually and beleavably builds.
The ending is a triumphant high! What truly makes Dirty Dancing absolutley unmissable is the fabulous dancing which is highly erotic though never once tacky and is accompanied by a sizzling soundtrack that helps build the potential atmosphere. Superb throughout, Dirty Dancing is indeed a timeless classic!
My absolute all time girly flick, the commentary that the writer gives as an added extra is very good and gives you a different insight to the film that makes you look at the film in a completely different light. All that besides the fact that Patrick Swayze is edible throughout the entire film, the soundtrack is terrific and if you havent seen this please do and you wont be let down.
JUST A GREAT FILM LOVE THE MUSIC AND THE DANCE MOVES A FILM YOU NEVER TIRE OF WATCHING THE FILM DOESNT HAVE ANY BAD POINTS THE FIL IS GREAT FROM START TO FINISH WISH THEY WOULD MAKE MORE FILMS LIKE THIS
if you like sentimental slop this is for you.if not then buy an indiana jones.we cant all like the same thing though i must admit the music score is very good.
A fantastic, feel-good film. Possibly a girlie film but can be enjoyed by blokes as well! I have bought a DVD version because my video tape is getting worn out!
I love this film its a classic and always makes me feel better when having a hard day! I bought this film as could not find it in many shops and it was a good price!
This has got to be the best movie of all time, its fun, musical and very enjoyable from the moment the film starts. and whats more, you get the gorgeous, sexy Patrick Swayze to top it off. Unfortunatley Mr Swayze is going through hard times at the moment and I am sure that everybody like myself send out our warmest wishes to him and his family. If you haven't seen this movie then Why Not? There must be a law somewhere that says everybody has to watch it at sometime in their lives. Go one... you won't regret it!
Cant wait to see this film again ,it has such a feelgood factor. Just to curl up on the sofa & watch Patrick Swayze doing what he does best ,what else does a girl want. The era the music & dance it is truly a classic . I'm sure I will be watching this for many years to come.
20 years after teenage girls swooned to the Swayze hips, Dirty Dancing's back. But is it still the ultimate chick flick or a clichéd mess of cha-cha-cha's that should never be seen outside of a sleepover? Well, that all depends on your penchant - or not - for Swayze himself, as the summer camp dance instructor introducing Jennifer Grey's posh girl 'Baby' to more than just a few moves on the dancefloor.
Brilliantly nostalgic even when it was made in 1987, Dirty Dancing's 60s-set coming of age tale ticks all the chick flick boxes. Plain Jane of an outsider growing up fast in a strange new world? Check. Sing-along-a soundtrack that's, actually, rather terrific? Present and correct. One all-encompassing dance-off finale? Oh yes. Add a disapproving father, bitchy sister and a storyline in which our heroine must learn her lifts, lose her 'spaghetti arms' and masquerade as a pro in only a few weeks, and you've got a formula that few movies have matched.
"HAS MATURED BY THE YEARS"
It's not all entirely age-proof: the much vaunted raunch factor will be laughed off by anyone Baby's age today, along with Swayze's terrifying semi-mullet. The cheesier lines, however, have only matured with the years. And while moments such as "Nobody puts Baby in the corner" may today attract more scoffs than swoons, chick flicks have hardly been bettered.
I saw this film many years ago and enjoyed it so much I became a very firm fan of Patrick Swayze. I bought the video version of this film and watched it on quite a few occasions. As Videos are now going out of fashion I decided to buy the DVD version so that I can continue watching it and when I saw it for sale on Ebay I put in a bid straight away. I am now looking forward to watching the DVD for the first time but without a doubt it won't be the last.
I have found ebay the right place to buy a product which you find very difficult to buy in the shops. It clearly demonstrates that ebay suits all individual needs as it caters for all parties & I would happily buy through ebay again.

watched it once when it came out years ago..will never watch it again!!!...for some unknown reason my mother wanted it.....so her wish is my command!!!!
I LOVE this film, everything about it, the music, patrick swayze, the dancing, and the era. for me it was pure nostalgia as i remember seeing it at the cinema when i was 13 and it totally blew me away. now it represents a cosy night in with a bottle of wine and a lot of off key singing while saying the lines before they come up. a classic that everyone should see at least once, go on boys, you too!
