Certainly one them anyway. Unless you have been living in a cave for the last forty years then you will be well aware of this great work. Although containing some sublime tracks in there own right, you really should listen to the album as a complete work. Pour yourself a large glass of whatever takes your fancy, slip on a comfortable pair of headphones, recline somewhere cosy and go on a journey of mind arousing wonder.
I think what really makes this album shine is that it has come from the collective minds of the entire band, with all four making a compositional contribution. Musically it is enriched with some great additional vocals from the likes of Doris Troy, Leslie Duncan, Liza Strike and Barry St John, and notably the mind blowing vocal from Clare Torry on 'The Great Gig in the Sky'. Add to this the ripping saxophone from Dick Parry and you have the perfect cocktail
Even if you have just left that cave we mentioned earlier and the words Pink and Floyd are strangers to you, buy this album and see what you have been missing. One the other hand if you are like me, and have nearly all of Pink Floyd's discography on vinyl, then treat yourself to some new CDs and make this one first on your shopping list, you will not be disappointed.
Obviously a timeless classic that any respecting rock and alternative fan must have. Decent repackaging for Floyd fans, but bought for the SACD presentation, and if you have the right equipment will bring new joy to the piece. Please check out Dub Side of the Moon for a great reggae version of the whole album!
If you were a fan of Pink Floyd during the 70's and owned the original Dark Side of the Moon, then you will love this. The remastered CD still has the magic of the original vinyl record but with so much more clarity and sound quality. The SACD plays perfectly on any standard CD player and I would imagine is 'something else' on a SACD dedicated player.
Fantastic album enjoyed every track now I am going to let someone else enjoy it. Very moving sounds and just so dreamy and excellent, takes you to a place where you have never been I guess
I bought this CD for my husband. He owns a DVD player which can also play SACD and was keen to hear the quality of music in this format. As he is a big fan of Pink Floyd this seemed a good choice and we were both hugely impressed and really enjoy this CD. We hope to buy more SACD's in the future.
Without going into too much detail about an album that many people are already familiar with - often to an obsessive level - I'll just keep this review short and simple. If you're a big fan of the album and own every version, this is still an essential purchase. Why? Because the remaster is astonishingly good, bringing out depths of clarity that you may have missed out on before. If you have an SACD player - and if you don't I recommend you get one - the experience is amplified ten-fold with a fully immersive field of sound that takes you right into the music.
Even if you're a newcomer this is a highly recommended example of a brilliantly bold Pink Floyd album that took experimental rock to a whole new level.
