The first thing I should point out about this DVD set is that in my opinion it is not suitable for children unless used in conjunction with proper lessons.
I think that this set has obviously been originally produced on Video Tape and transferred onto DVD in order to keep up with current trends. Thus the video quality is quite poor in places. Also there are no set "chapters" as on most DVD's, which I think would greatly enhance this "Lesson" type of DVD set.
The actual content, as far as tapping is concerned, I found to be easy to understand and well filmed, which is essential if you are a complete novice like me. Also there is a lot of information included over the two DVD's.
What I found most off-putting about this set is the fact that although the DVD is marked as 2004 copyright, personally I feel sure this was originally filmed in the early 1980's. It certainly feels quite dated to me.
That said, I bought this set to teach myself to Tap Dance and as such it will fulfill my needs quite adequately, as long as I can get past the video quality and the feeling of being in a time-warp!
Bought it because I live in Spain for most of the year and come back to the Uk for 4 months. I have tap dancing lessons out there and wanted to keep my hand in, so to speak, or perhaps that should be my foot! Anyhow, this DVD seems really simple at first but then you realise that they are building up steps. The use of the children in a class is quite good but can be distracting so make sure you always watch the teacher, or adult. I would definitely recommend this video - it is quite hard work and has really done the job for me - its fun and great exercise.
I decided to buy it as I wanted some additional practise as I have just started a tap class. The lady on the dvd reminds me of my dance teacher when I was a little girl. Although the moves are ok, it's from the arc and not a very modern take on tap dance at all. Also she can go quite quickly and it is very off putting dancing with 5 year old children who also cannot tap dance! I am not giving up with the dvd though as the moves are all on it, just the way they are done is very old fashioned.
Great instructive dvd with quiet gentle build up through the basic steps through more complex patterns to full routines. Bought this little treasure for my grandma for christmas, she never ceases to practice in the kitchen with her trusty tappers on. Great value dvd, covers the basics and helps you on to the next level.
