Classic TV at it's finest, influential and excellent, a truly wonderful TV show. Sadly, it seems our fave detective has solved his last case.... funding for the last episode, Columbo's Last Case, was cancelled.
This is a landmark series that inspired an entire genre. peter Falk stars as the greatest detective,Columbo, 4 time Emmy winner with his cigar chomping, trench coat wearing lieutenant. Fantastic collectors set very well recomended. very speedy delivery from a recommended seller. to sum it up, A MUST HAVE...
These early pilots and episodes of Columbo from the first series have a real quality about them. It's something to do with nostalgia, I guess, but really it's much more than that. All the ingredients are right: Peter Falk; big-name casts; superb Technicolor cinematography; intelligent scripts; humour; and drama. Columbo never chases anybody in his car, never shoots anyone, never swears, just beats the criminals with the power of his mind, much like Poirot. Columbo is for fans of literate crime drama, and they don't get much better. I like this particular set, which has six DVDs in a particularly attractive case. It includes both pilot episodes (films in their own right really, which take up a whole DVD each) so you can see how Peter Falk - incredibly young in the first pilot - developed the Lieutenant's character. I'm impressed too by the quality of the transfer onto DVD. There's a richness to the colour that's very appealing. Highly recommended.
columbo is the best.some later episodes were very forgettable as he was more of a parody of "columbo" and it lost its simpleness..but the early episodes are definately watchable time and time again. oh ! just one more thing..columbo is cool.
I have always liked columbo as I think it was one of the best detective series that was made. I never tire of watching the films. I decided to buy this item so that I can continue to watch whenever I want to and not having to hope it will be shown on TV. ken
Many criminals made the mistake of underestimating Lieutenant Columbo, a homicide investigator with a crumpled trench-coat and a beat-up car, who certainly acted as an incompetent bumbler.
And although the audience had witnessed the murder in the beginning of each episode, it was still a surprise to see what mistakes the killers had made during the seemingly perfect murder.
Simply the best American cop show ever made, the joy is in the fact that every episode is essential the same and that we know from the start that Columbo is a genius, whereas it usually takes the character actor a good hour to come to the same conclusion.
It is a programme I enjoy and it is great to have it on dvd for whenever I want. They play all the same ones on tv so its great to see some different episodes. No complaints about it what so ever
