When Massive Attack decided to release their long awaited best of album there was rightly so a buzz among fans. I myself as a huge massive attack fan was greatly looking forward to buying it. Finding myself a reasonably priced copy on here i purchased, and when it arrived i eagerly put it straight into my cd player; unfortunatly my eagerness turned out to be non deserved.
The problem with this album is whereas terrific songs such as 'Butterfly Caught', 'Teardrop', 'Unfinished Symphony,' and 'Angel' theres so many gems from the later albums that just went missing. I found it dissapointing not to introduce two songs in particular; 'Special Cases,' and a song that was featured on The Matrix soundtrack, both of these songs among my personal favourites.
The album itself isn't half bad, the thing is it could have been so much better. I think the problem was that when it came to choosing their best songs to feature on the album they just couldn't quite choose which ones to pick.
My advice on this album is that if you're a huge Massive Attack fan, and i mean you own stuff from before the 90s, you'll love this album. However, if you're more a fan of their chillout era, in particular their collaberations with Portishead, Sinead O'connor and others then you might not enjoy this album as much.
