I discovered Manu Chao through the equally brilliant "Dimanche à Bamako" of Amadou and Mariam. Manu Chao is the guest star and his arrangements and guitar playing are fantastic. Manu Chao is the epitome of the world musician. He writes and sings in French, Spanish, English, Arabic, and others. Most of the songs in "Clandestino" are in Spanish and centre around the theme of immigration. Manu Chao is an incredible musician with a social conscience. His music echoes the rhythms from all over the world and is thrilling. I am a languages teacher and I could not help wanting to share this discovery with my students. They simply do not understand why he is not better known and they adore "Bongo Bong" the third track which is great fun and was a hit in France.
