I have seen this film at least a dozen times and each time I am carried away to a small village in Italy, where the dreams of a small boy come true and we can join his spellbinding journey. The Italian language (it is subtitled) adds to the film's beauty and music, the characters are so real you can almost smell them. I am absorbed into "Paradiso" each time I watch it, so that when it is over, I am shocked into the realisation that I haven't actually been anywhere except right there, in my theatre seat. I am not a huge "art house" film fan or indeed enjoy subtitled films (it is hard on the old eyes!) but "Paradiso" is a gem and is worth seeing again and again.
Absolutely sublime... this movie will evoke every emotion in you. It traces Toto and the wonderfully delectable rustic Alfredo in a sicilian village and their shared love of the cinema. The film has so many little stories woven in, such profundity strewn in with sentiment that you will have difficulty seperating them.
Take a big load of chocolate and a few hankies....and settle down with your lover for the most nostaligically manipulative piece of film you will ever see.
A beautiful plot, with a wealth of characters that opens the viewers imagination. The settings are authentic, the situations believable. A Film that you could watch over & over.
I have purchased this film several times. I lend them to friends (who mostly have never heard of the film) They fall in love with it. And for some bizarre reason I feel the need to tell them to keep my copy. I think I need medical attention. Impossible for me to describe this film with the credit it`s due. Other than to say it covers every aspect of ones emotions. It is funny, passionate and extremely poignant. The truly beautiful music by `Ennio Morricone` fits the film perfectly. Those in doubt perhaps should check out snippets of the film and music on `You Tube`
