Bowies career from '69 to '84 suffered many highs and a few lows. This re-imagining of 'changesonebowie' takes the listener from the highs of Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, Ziggy and Aladdin through to the less well thought of material from Let's Dance, visiting the Blued eyed soul of Young Americans and Station to Station on the way. Unfortunately there are glaring omissions on the way. The Berlin Triptych of Low, Heroes and Lodger is only represented by the single track 'Heroes', and killer singles such as Starman from Ziggy and the unbeatable Drive in Saturday from Aladdin cannot be paint brushed out of Bowie's glittering career.
Saying all that, the album still stands up well as a good introduction to Bowie, and a great reminder to people like me just how entertaining Bowie could be. Heroes really stands out as a tour de force, with the ethereal production of Brian Eno, and Let's Dance / China Girl / Modern Love have stood the test of time well; Let's Dance really wasn't a bad album at all.
The only real criticism I have is the inclusion of the Fame '90 remix, but this is a small point and is obviously an inclusion that was a reflection of the time the cd was released. No doubt later reissues of this album will take into account my points and release a double (changes2bowie?) which will include a wider range of tunes from this period of his glittering career.
Bowie has never been known for producing a record that was boring or fed off the sales of the previous one. They were always pushing boundaries back and bringing a total experience with them. That made this album such a shock. Yes they are all covers of well known songs made famous by others but don't be fooled into thinking that makes this album a yawn maker. He brings a new life to each track without completely destroying the previous version that you would already know. He adds a twist just like adding lemon to a G&T it adds without masking the original flavour. A really good album that should be in any collection of modern music regardless of your favourite genre.
I wanted to buy the David Bowie CD because he is a legend. I wasn't really into Bowie when he was in the charts, but after watching the series "Life on Mars", and listening to the eighties music once again, I realised just how brilliant he was. I play it in the car all the time.
An excellent CD .All those brilliant tracks by Bowie that most of us have forgotten about.A must for anyone that grew up in the 70s. Well worth a space in your collection
my 51 year old brother said its excellent his been a collector for years of david bowie so he likes to buy cd now as his record collection are his first love.
I decided to buy the CD David Bowie - Changes, as I have several David Bowie albums on vinyl which I cannot now listen to, the Changes CD offered a lot of my favourite tracks which I enjoyed listening to again very much.
However, there was a slight disappointment in that three of the tracks listed where missing, when I mentioned this to my seller my money was refunded in full, which I thought was very fair, there had been an honest mistake in the listing. The item was delivered quickly and packaging very appropriate for a CD, all in all I was satisfied with the transaction.
This is an excellant CD of Bowies music that takes me right back to my youth. I just happened across this item whilst browsing on ebay and was very pleased when I won it. It is a welcome addition to my collection and I can enjoy the music with out the scratchy noises my earlier vinyl's make.
I BOUGHT THIS ON EBAY AS IT IS SO HARD TO FIND IN SHOPS NOW,IT WAS A GREAT PRICE AND FEATURED MANY OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS,I DIDNT HAVE TO TREDGE AROUND SHOPS TRYING TO FIND IT,I BID ON IT ,WON IT AND PAYED VIA PAYPAL,ALL AT THE TOUCH OF A FEW BUTTONS!
Bought for a friend, already have much of his work in various formats myself. No complaints about this format, a good mixture only likely to appeal to casual fans who haven't collected his work in the past.
