  What a great upgrade!
Review created: 24/09/07
28 of 28 people found this review helpful.

After a couple of years using the very good EOS 350D I felt it was time to upgrade - if for no other reason than the fact that the 350D was a little small for my sausage fingered hands!

The 40 seemed like a good choice as it's got more features and is a little larger too.

I've had it a couple of weeks now, and it's like starting all over again. Thsi camera has so many features and the controls are very well laid out, just encouraging you to experiment!

It's a super piece of kit, and while I'd like the new EOS 1D I can't afford it or justify that much money on a hobby! The 40D will suit most people for a long time to come.

Canon EOS 40D 10.1MPixel DSLR body
Review created: 01/11/07(updated 03/11/07)
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

Canon have three ranges of digital SLRs.
1. The high end single digits (1D and variants, and the 5D)
2. The prosumer double digits (10D, 20D, 30D and 40D)
3. The amateur triple digits (300D,350D,400D).

This is the latest of the prosumer range, and has a number of top features:
1. 10.1Mpixel APS-C CMOS sensor
2. 6.5fps (or 3fps) burst shooting (for a burst of 17 raw or 75jpg)
3. 3.0" LCD with Live View mode
4. EOS Integrated Cleaning System

The last two features are a first for the prosumer range.

Summary: While the upgrade from the 20D to 30D was minimal, the upgrade from the 30D to 40D is a significant step forward. If you're a serious amateur, or a budget concious professional, this is a brilliant option.

  Canon 40d
Review created: 19/08/08

Top class camera, if your stuck deciding which dslr to buy, i tried a d200/a350/a700 and the 40d. I owned a A100 sony and these where my upgrade options, the Canon was not my first choice because it ment i would have to change all my lens and flash etc to a new system, but after trying it for a few days I gave up all my sony/minolta eqpt I was totaly impressed by image quality, speed, and great handy menu setup. The only gripe was the lcd, the A700 blew the 40d away with its quality. But i can live with the lesser quality lcd just to have images this good. Highly recomended to anyone thinking of upgrading or buying a first DSLR.

  The Canon EOS 40 D

This is a very good camera. The picture quality is excellent and the degree of customisation available is truly usefl. I have upgraded from an EOS 350D and the changes I realy like are:
1. Live View. Using this for product photography, still life and macro whilst linked to my laptop using the software provided makes it all too easy to produce excellent results. Even without the laptop, the x5 and x10 views are very good.
2. The burst speed is awsome, 6.5 frames a second for 3 seconds shooting large RAWS! I also like the fact it can be selected to 3 fps as an alternative otherwise I find just one shot tricky!
3. The 14 bit AD converter delivers very good picture quality.
4. The extra pixels have improved the detail.
As for what I don't like, absolutely nothing!
Thoughroughly recommended!

  Outstanding Service - Canon 40D
Review created: 24/07/08

I have been using ebay for a number of years and have never before used an overseas seller (the unknown!!) for such a large amount, but I have to say this seller has changed my whole view of oversea sellers. Great communication at every stage, delivery was faultless.
The canon 40D is an absolute delight to use as you would expect from a Canon camera, but the greatest feeling of all (being a Yorkshire man) is the savings typically £250 over UK shops.
I will be and have used this sevice again since my first experience. Congratulations on a first class service I would recommend you to any UK resident who has not tried an overseas seller before. Keep up the good work.

A great and inexpensive camera. Robust and well built enjoyment of use. It has no unnecessary functions.
For the negative we can say that the quality of image is not much higher than the Canon EOS 400D.

  Victim of a fraud !

1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I won the item on ebay. And after having received the bank account where to do the payment and having done it, the user has disappeared and obviously I have not received the item... I did a transfer to "s l harewood" in an abbey national account number which is 06028015, sort code 09-01-27 and I am absolutely unable to trace the seller nor get my money back. I have reported the crime to the Metropolitan Police in London (ref. nº 2003263/08) but they will not continue further as a matter of priorities and resources. I feel really bad and I would like ebay to help me with such event.

What can ebay do for me? What can I do? Is there is any possibility of getting my money back??

The 40D is everything I could want in a dSLR
Review created: 07/03/08
by:

I upgraded from my trusty 350d primarily due to the small screen on the 350d. I also wanted to benefit from the higher ISO (3200), the auto ISO in creative mode, the 6.5fps shooting.

I love the display on the top, setting the camera up (white balance, iso, shooting mode etc) is very easy with the shortcut buttons. The picture review on the screen is fantastic allowing me to see if the picture I've just shot is any good, it's east to zoom in and scroll the image displayed.

When comparing to the new flagship 1D Mark III there is little on that camera that is not on the 40D and I can't see any reason I would want to upgrade in the future.

The auto sensor cleaning should be a good feature as well, I often change between my 17-85mm and 70-300mm lens so the possibility of dust is high.

Battery life is good, I shot over 1000 pictures on one charge with an IS lens (I really recommend the IS lenses, especially if you are shooting hand held at 300mm)

It's heavier than the 350d and as such I have replaced my shoulder bag for a small camera rucksack (Tamrac Adventure 6) so that is worth considering when you purchase it.

I totally recommend the camera to anyone wanting a high functionality dSLR for a reasonable amount of money. I bought my first 3MP point and shoot digital camera about 6 years for more!!

  Canon 40D
Review created: 25/02/08

Great camera. I had a canon 5d but found I wanted to takle pictures underwater and the 'live view' function on the 40D makes life much easier. the only problem is that to get the live view to work you need to set up two user customised functions which is a bit of a pain but no big shakes - after that you have a digital SLR with LCD screen for taking pictures which is really handy for my underwater persuits as well as taking pictures at difficult angles where lookign through the view finder is not easy.

The pictures the camera takes are first rate!

  What a disaster
Review created: 08/02/08

3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I was searching for thsi camera for some time and finally decided to go ahead and bid for it on eBay - this was a huge mistake, my reccommendation following this experience is never buy anything of great value on eBay - in this instance I nearly lost £320 GBP - eBay canbcelled the austion after I had paid for the goods - which left me out of pocket by £462 and no help from eBay!!!!!Apparently the sellers account was hacked into and a the sale was a dud. The 'seller' IDesignAsia, initially promised to fulfil the sale, I waited the time they specified and received nothing, I chased the seller who then said they could not fulfill the sale but promised to repay the money I had stumped up within 90 days! They then stopped communicating so I was left with no option but to file a claim with Paypal, sadly the seller had not completed enough data to allow Paypal to offer the £500 cover so I could only recover £150 through Paypal.

The summary - Don't chase a bargain on eBay you could get easily get ripped off.

Don't bother with ebay, ive been ripped off twice and both times ebay are not interested. Customer care is NONE existent. Ebay act like God closing down auctions with little or no explanation and with no means of redress. Ebay should be regulated.
My recommendation is to buy from a retailer.

The Free iPhone Guide

To get yourself a free iPhone all you have to do is follow the 3 easy steps:

Step 1 : Sign up for a free iPhone
Sign up at the link below to get your free iPhone. We recommend this free iPhone site because it's been TRIED and TESTED to work.

http://kudosnetwork.co.uk/?ref=174 (copy and paste into browser)

You can choose other prizes like free consoles from this site too! Make sure you use a real email address. Use your real details when you sign up so that the company knows where to send your iPhone! Remember that they have been proven legitimate, so will send you your free iPhone if you do everything legitimately!

Step 2 : Try an advertiser's offer
Basically all you need to do in this step is complete one of the offers, this is where the freebie site make their money, if you complete an offer then the freebie site will recieve commission for it. So if you complete Coral which will only cost you £5 to complete, the freebie site gets £25 from Coral. The two best offers are Lovefilm Free DVD rental (rent two DVD's, keep them for about 2 days, send them back and then cancel the trial) and Coral (bet £5 on a sport). I would reccommend you do Coral as it credits in an hour and is really simple to do, Lovefilm however can become complicated and takes up to 2 weeks to credit! You can also try one of the other offers, most are gambling offers. Don't skip this step! You must complete this step to get your free iPhone!

Step 3 : Refer some friends
This part is a lot easier than it seems, especially now with free iPhone sites getting so popular. There's lots of people online who want a free iPhone too, so start referring them! You only need to get a few signups before you'll be finished. You can ask your friends or your online buddies. I already got a free PS3, Wii, and XBOX Elite without even having to ask my friends for help - there's lots of people online who want a free iPhone like you! One of the easiest ways to get a referral is to do a favour for a friend and ask them to sign up in return. That way, you both can get a free iPhone!

Basic rules
Don't break these rules! This is the only reason that you won't get your free iPhone, so make sure you follow these rules!

- One account per household - don't use a public computer to sign up!
- Use real information - this is a proven legitimate site and they will not give out your information.
- Only complete each offer once! You cannot complete the same offer again, even for different freebies.
- Don't try to cheat the system. This site has been proven legitimate, and they will catch you if you try to cheat. If you do everything legitimately, by following this guide, you will get a free iPhone!

Thats all, just follow my guide and you will have your free iPhone in no time.

Thank you.

Canon EOS 40D review

This camera is the update to the hugely popular 20D and 30D cameras which were widely used by both amateur and professional photographers alike. The standout features for me are the 10mp sensor, 6.5fps shooting speed, 9 cross type high precision auto focus points, and all servos, lightweight metal alloy body, and 3 inch live view LCD.

I have a SIGMA 50-500MM lens, and with this 40d body its Excellent!!!!!

It was a xmas present to my sister who is a semi-pro photographer. As she says it couldn't be better. I don't know much about photography so I couldn't tell pro things about the camera.
My opinion is that if you want good pictures easy, fast and if you can afford it this is the best choice.

  Buying a Canon 40D through ebay! why's and wherefore's
Review created: 04/01/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Bought one of these from a far eastern supplier with heart in mouth, for all the reasons that we are all familiar with. Completely misguided as it happened. The thing arrived within 2 days - yes, that's TWO days - from placing the order, and it appeared at the face price. That price represented a considerable saving on anything that was available in Uk.
However - I did get an invoice from UPS (I think it was) for a contributions to the Exchequer of the country, which I willingly paid - as in drawing teeth!! It was all still much cheaper than UK and the extra was nowhere near the true VAT level.
And a second "however" - i also bought a 100-400 lens which got stuck at International Post Office place and couldn't be released till I'd paid £160 duty on a lens that cost me £700. This is probably only marginally cheaper than you can get here.
SO - all in all buying from Hong Kong is OK so long as you choose a vendor who is careful about labels or who will indemnify you against VAT etc.
Now - the camera. It does everything I could ever wish for, and probably even more than I can discover. The built in flash is a real boon, as is the live-view, and so are the various presets that are available. Finally - it is really quick and convenient to use.
Freshacre
And now to get the photos "done" using my new iMac - also bought on ebay. Ebay must love me - how's about some discount!!
