Tom Cruise portraying an important, strong and vibrant message, aimed at the American politetions at the time of the Vietnam war showing the aftermath and devistation to a single soldiers life, following dissability after serving his country and the reaction of the American peace campaigners in the 1960's. A true life situation for many young men, who served during this period. My type of film with every empathy for those that it affected. I purchased this film to remind me of all the young men that I saw back in the early sixties, going to and returning from Veitnam, they have my support and admiration for a job that they really did not understand, they stood up for there rights but are still to this day stigmatized!
An interesting film because it's based on a true story, but of course we never know exactly what might have been changed or exaggerated. It was made with the benefit of hindsight so was a bit "preachy". As in films of this nature some things were over-sentimentalised. It will obviously appeal to the anti-war or anti-American brigade. I'm not a great Tom Cruise fan but his performance was good, especially in the beginning as the typical all-American boy.
