  Great Album
Review created: 26/06/08

There are a few great songs on this album, the three that stand out for me are "Idiot Wind", "Tangled Up In Blue" and "Simple Twist Of Fate". Not to say that the other seven tracks are bad. I really enjoy this album as I do most Dylan albums.

A must have for any poet, would be poet, lover, guitarist, acoustic enthusiast...in fact anyone with a heart.Dylans heart seems to be bleeding, with the pain of his tangled lovelife, but the sheer poetry of the lyrics, and beauty of his playing is astounding, timeless, and though I've heard this alum thoousands of times I will NEVER get sick of it,as its my favourite album EVER of all time, and has been since I was a kid.Give it a listen if you never have, and enjoy!!!!!Its amazing, full of soul, pain, with some lighter bits thrown in.The man is a genius and this album is testament to this.Classic, groundbreaking, historically important and poetically significant.

  An all time classic
Review created: 29/01/08

This is one of the greatest albums ever made. Written at a time when Bob was splitting up with his wife, it is a heart-wrenching collection of songs - at times tender and beautiful (You're gonna make me lonesome when you go) and at times evil and bitter (Idiot wind) but always beautiful. And it includes classic story songs like Tangled up in Blue which never ceases to amaze with the rbeadth of its vision. Dylan's sense of melody and his vocals have never been better. If you don't think of yourself as a Dylan fan, this is a fine place to start. If you already know his genius, well then you'll have to own this album.

  One of Dylan's best albums

Either you love Bob Dylan or you hate him. If you were a teenager in the 60s, you'd have watched Dylan progress from the brilliant simplicity of Blowing in the Wind songs to the complex, biting lyrics of his stuff in the mid-70s until he burnt out in the early 80s and lost that spark that made him compelling listening. For me, Blood on the Tracks is one of several masterpieces, filled with cleverly crafted songs and superb tunes. It was written when he was at the peak of his powers. All the tracks are great, but my favourite is "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts", which is as fresh now as it was 25 years ago. I bought this as a CD so I could play it in my car as it doesn't have a cassette player. This kind of music probably won't be appreciated by today's kids, but that's their problem. They don't know what they're missing.

  Best Dylan Album

Not having been a Dylan fan before, a friend gave me 'Blood on the Tracks' about 10 years ago and that was the beginning of my conversion to the world of Bob Dylan. In my opinion this is a great album, and for those who are equivocal about Dylan (genius or slightly off-beat, off-key folk singer?) give this a try. All of the songs retain Dylan's undoubted gift for telling and powerful lyrics, but do not have the raw folksy dimension of his earlier work and pre-date his shift towards a more rock-oriented style. My personal (and enduring) favourites on the album are 'Simple Twist Of Fate', 'You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go', 'If You See Her Say Hello' and the brilliant, 'Shelter From The Storm'.
Buy it and try it!
