I've always liked Bob Dylan - sometimes!

Being 55 years old, Bob Dylan has been around my whole life. I remember Blowin' in the Wind when I was about 13, and remember when people were horrified that he went 'electric'! This 3 CD set spans many years of his career and there are odd tracks on all the CDs that I like, but a lot I just can't take. Some are depressing, boring or just plain odd - can't explain it very well, but have a listen and I'm sure you'll know what I mean!
The track of his that I really wanted is Tangled up in Blue - originally from the album Blood on the Tracks. It's brilliant. I love everything about that track. The words are great, like 99% of Dylan's stuff you could read it as a poem, but this is a good story and the pace and rythmn are, to my mind, just right.
Visions of Johanna is a personal favourite. Positively 4th Street and It Ain't Me Babe are other tracks on CD#2 which I like a lot.
On CD#3 I like to listen to I Want You, Just Like a Woman, Knockin on Heavens Door and All Along the Watchtower, but feel like skipping the rest. Actually I do prefer the covers other people have done of All Along the Watchtower, but I really like that song. I went to see Dylan live many years ago and he performed it better than as recorded for this album. But most Dylan fans will know he was always changing his songs, and you couldn't guarantee he'd play a song you liked in the same way as you'd known it from a recording.
Anyway for me, these CDs are nostalgic and well worth a listen even if you have to sit close to the skip button for when a particular track becomes unbearable!

  Biograph.A Great"Official Bootleg"
Review created: 08/07/08

53 great tracks,of alternate versions, and Out-takes,and some previously released material. The package is superb, and includes recording dates and brief notes of interest surrounding the songs, and their sources in a lovely booklet.
Bootleg collectors may well like to seek out the 10 LP set TEN OF SWORDS.Released at around the same time as the much awaited Biograph,of equal if not better quality, and much more extensive, and unusually for a bootleg, the package was of outstanding professional quality. On the down side,it is easily £200 worth in good condition, and hard to find now.
As far as official releases go,the Biograph set is high quality, and carefully collaborated collection, and is usually obtainable for under £15 including postage. That should see a Near Mint 3 CD set.Pay a little more if you want the Vinyl.
This set should appeal to Die-Hard Dylan freaks, and newly enlightened listeners alike.Check Out Jet Pilot.Only 49 seconds long, but very funny, surely that could have found room on Highway 61,but 20 years after the original recording,it bacame available for officially the 1st time on CD 2 of this set. There are many many other rare treats to be had here.
Go out and buy this, you are sure to love it.
