I decided to buy this again on DVD after owning it on video for 4 or 5 years wearing the tape out in the process! :D
Tae-Bo is what I can only describe as low-impact, high-energy aerobics using moves from dance and martial arts. It's fun, energetic, motivating, inspiring and does what it says on the label - gets results FAST!
What I like most about Tae-Bo with Billy is he is very motivating throughout the whole routine, and because he has worked extensively with people of all weights and sizes (as you can see on the DVD) he is empathic and understanding of the physical challenges one may be up against. He explains what you might be feeling in your body, reassures and encourages you to take the time to listen to it - take a break if you need to, drink fluids, breath, go at your own pace, don't try to be super trained athlete like he is, don't over extend joints - he constantly reminds you to take care of your body and how to do that. This is the failing of a lot of other fitness video's/DVD's on the market in my opinion having tried a few to date - I never picked up a single injury all the time I was working out with Tae-Bo, and because I knew what was going on with my body, I found that I started to enjoy the feeling of my muscles burning in the work out because I knew that's all it was and Billy is so very positive about it - he smiles, grins, reminding you constantly that it's all good, and how great the results are going to be, if you persevere, do it 'properly' and enjoy it.
I also found it to be quite empowering something I very much needed at the time - because so many of the movements are martial art based, and because my body started to feel strong, I felt strong inside and out.
As the main routine is so short, with my youngest child (I have three) into her second year, some post baby baggage still hanging around - in Jan 2001 weighing in at 8 1/2 stone and a UK size 10, I did the routine every morning 5 days a week for 1 month, then 3 times a week for the next 3 months. By the April 2001 I was 8.4 stone and a very trim, fit and energised UK size 6. I managed to maintain that size until 2005 doing the video in fits and starts sporadically. I wish I'd never stopped - now at a weight I don't wish to disclose (typical woman!) and a UK size 10-12 it's time to work with Billy Blanks again having complete faith that Tae-Bo will do it's magic again.
I really can not recommend it highly enough!
