What a fantastic film, best I have seen in the last couple of years. Yes it is long but it's action packed throughout. So good in fact the others seem a little behind now. Story line was consistant, and sad in places, very well played out.

  The true birth of Batman!!!!

I loved this film, In previous batman films they glimpse at Bruce waynes past and what happend to his parents. In this film its all explained even down to how the joker and his phonies appear on the scene in later films.

This film is full of action, tears, laughter, great graphics, romance and amazing stunt work.

Its quite a long film but no longer than is comfortable to sit and watch something as good as this.

Pros: full of really good lines and action with brilliant organisation and plot.

Cons: Batman is a different actor again (and yes I know actors age too) but it would be nice to try and get people who look similar or keep the same actor for a while.

my verdict: Buy it, well worth seeing and explains alot out of the older films.

Brilliant! The impressive cast list say's it all...
Review created: 22/06/08(updated 22/06/08)

This film is well worth watching, again and again....

It has everything a Batman movie commands.

It's dark, moody, mysterious, suave, sophisticated... And that's just Christian Bale... Bale delivers a superb performance, he really does excel at playing this type of character. Without a doubt he makes the best Bruce Wayne since Michael Keaton's excellent portrayal of the caped crusader in Tim Burton's 'Batman' movie released way back in 1989.

The basic storyline tells the tale of how Bruce Wayne witnessed his parent's being murdered when he was just a young child.
The psychological affects of this traumatic experience leave Bruce struggling to cope not only with the loss of both of his parents but also with his internal battle to conquer his uncontrollable feelings of guilt and anger. This manifests into his incessant need to seek revenge and rid Gotham of the sinister forces that threaten the city.
He travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful.
Along the way he is exposed to a series of rigorous endurance tests, conditioning his mind and body to withstand the physical and mental stamina required for such a heroic task.
On his return to Gotham he engages the help of his trusted butler Alfred (Michael Cane). Cane plays Alfred with the demure grace and english eccentricity that one would expect.
And so, now that Bruce has acquired the necessary skills for taking on the sinister forces that threaten Gotham City, he and Alfred set about creating Bruce's alter ego and equipping him with an array of high tech gadgets and weaponary...

It's hard to wrong with such a star studded cast... Treating us to a schmorgers board laden with some of the industries finest talent....

This film really is faultless. It's beautifully filmed, wonderfully directed, it achieves that rare quality of combining fantasy with style and sophistication. It's a superhero movie that retains just enough realism to prevent it being another one of those big budget, over the top movies that have been hollywood-ized to within an inch of their lives...

Watch and enjoy :-)

At last... a PROPER Batman movie!
Review created: 16/06/08

Yes Yes YES! If you, like me, were wondering if the movie makers were EVER going to make a 'proper' Batman movie, well this is undoubtedly it and the wait is over!

To start, what's clever is the background build-up to explain the 'Batman' phenomenon and very believable it is too. Great special effects and stellar performances from Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman add to the authenticity. Certain rainy sequences remind me of the movie Blade Runner - there's even a starring role from Rudger Hauer who starred in Blade Runner as the scheming boss of the latter-day Wayne Enterprises.

The movie is fast-paced with plenty of action, gradually building on Batman's struggling early attempts as a masked crusader, to a honed razor-sharp force fighting the sinister forces which threaten Gotham City. The movie builds to a nail-biting climax of events which clearly lead the viewer to expect more from this latest and best Batman franchise.

The next movie will undoubtedly be a MUST SEE! Ensure you add this movie to your DVD collection - it's one you can view over and over and still find good stuff to smile about!

Batman begins - A return to form
Review created: 06/03/08

The Batman franchise had been a bit down until this beauty of a film came out.
Directed by Chris Nolan (Mememto and the underrated Prestige) this stars the best actor of his generation in Christian Bale. Also with Michael Caine, Katie Holmes (the brilliant) Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson and Gary Oldman - this has an excellent cast.
Focusing on the early life of Bruce Wayne this is a far grittier and edgier film which is much darker.
By far the best film in the Batman franchise this has to be watched.

  New generation Batman
Review created: 18/02/08

Fans of the old Batman films may find it a bit strange, and notice the lack of any particularly good villains. However, this film is full of action for the new generations who enjoy the likes of the Fantastic 4 films, and is supported by a strong cast including the likes of Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman.

Like the later comics, this film dips further into Bruce Wayne's personal like, documenting his rise as the dark knight and bringing a lot more emotion to the table.

It's a great film for any open-minded fan to watch - I own the whole collection - and it also appeals to the younger audiences. And if you love this one, look out for the new film The Dark Knight, out next year.

  by far the best yet

compared with the batman film that came before this one is a refreshing change it doesn't follow the comic book style but instead follows the action film style which is more enjoyable without seeing great actor/actress dressing up and looking silly. definately gritty and dark with a simple to follow story and better insite to where all the cool bat gear came from.the only question left to be answered is where can we get a car like that.shopping would never be the same again.

Very slow for a Batman movie - alot deeper than I'd hoped as it was for my 3 year old son - wouldn't recommend anyone younger than 15 watches this as it requires a level of intellegence to understand the story. Good acting though!!

I liked the other batman films, but wasn't a lover of them. However i loved batman begins. It is well acted, with a great story line, and is more of an action adventure film than that of its predecessors. Well worth a watch.

As a fan of the original Batman movie I found this version coming closest to the dark feel that underpinned the original movie. Christian Bale makes a great Batman!

  Quality

We bought this move after viewing at the cinema for a few simple reasons;

It is one of the finest quality family movies I have seen in the last 5 years.
Magnificent photography.
Haunting music.
Directors eye for detail.
Excellent cast.
Timeless.

There you go - if you are reading this review having not seen the movie - this is a class act.

Warning - We only watch "family" type movies due to age of child. I may have a limited viewing range - but we are frequent movie goers.

Brilliant family film. My kids had seen it before but really enjoyed re-watching it. They had seen other Batman films, and comic strip films but this told them how and why he did what he did, and the 'bat' part.

  Batman Begins
Review created: 08/08/06

I decide to buy this because I was interested to see what Christian Bale made of the part. Other Batmen have been a bit dubious, ranging from tongue in cheek, to look at me. I found his portrayal very good indeed, the darkness of the character coming through, as it should be. Special effects are good, but the Batmobile not up to much, they should have kept the last one. Michael Cane as Alfred wouldn't have been my choice and for me it does't work, hey ho!

  Just Entertaining
Review created: 13/07/06
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

‘Batman Begins’ means that you will have to go through the whole apprenticeship of the young and inexperienced Bruce - and that does just half of the movie - before the real stuff begins. All that philosophical/moral initiation and martial art training was an interesting approach of the circumstances that turned Bruce Wayne into Batman, but it falls through (we’re far from the Matrix and Morpheus’s teaching).

In addition, the Batman will craft and manufacture all his funky toys and trappings; that can be interesting, but it takes off the magic. What we like with Batman is the dream, the supernatural, the fantastic: trying to bring everything down to rational proportions is a bit dull and dispiriting. Hopefully the magic will take off with the action - the trouble is you need to see the first part of the film to understand what’s going on in the second. But then, maybe you won’t have wasted your time.

It’s a Batman movie, so expect just that (and there’s no Schwarzenegger or George Clooney in this one - yet, I salute Michael Caine who brings a little tinge of quality to the film). There’s action and blasts and stunts to everyone’s content, on that you can rely. Christopher Nolan has become a Hollywood film maker, so don’t expect any personal directing touch. The script was audacious in its twists (mostly in the fight between good and evil) but the end treatment is no better than a good comic.

  Batman Begins (DVD)

I bought this as it was voted best film 2005 in a survey and I hadnt seen it at the cinema. A return to form for the Batman franchise with better plot line and getting rid of all the heavily made up baddies. Very enjoyable and what you expect from this sort of action movie with plenty of gadgets and a storyline explaining why Batman evolves into a crime fighter. A good 4/5.

  The Master of Darkness Returns

I think this film is brilliantly done. It goes back to it's roots, the Dark hero who uses the shadows to pray on his enimies. The hero (Christian Bale) does a mangificent performance and suits the role very well. I disliked the Batmobil due to the fact it was over done and should be a car of stealth and speed not of mass destuction. Im really a Marvel fan but this film made me consider the DC character.
