  Atari Jaguar Console
Review created: 22/07/08

A great peace of retro gaming kit! A must have for the collector and a great buy for the casual gamer. The Atari Jaguar didn’t do to well back in its day due to customer lack of faith in Atari and a very bad advertising campaign. But now you can really see behind all that is a good solid console. And the fact that I didn’t get much attention back in the day is a good thing for collectors, they are rare, so they will make a valuable collection for collectors or otherwise. I recommend the Atari Jaguar for all gamers, just a great console.

class. sheer class. like turning back the clock to a somehow happier and simpler time. old school gaming at its most .... unusual. better yet worse than a megadrive and snes and obvious in its macho american origins i'm loving it!!!!

from a 30 something gamer and retro collector.

worth it for tempest and AvP alone!

  atari's "black sheep"

this really is a good console. lt's such a shame it "failed"! i don't think it got the support from atari that it deserved. my particular machine was in near mint condition and i paid a fair price. the rarity of these machines, being what they are, meant i could have paid quite a bit! this is my second of these consoles, my other one unfortunately does not work and so is kept for spares. the unusual shape of the console "persuaded" me to buy in the first place. i'm a big fan of atari anyway!! i only have two main niggles - i feel the control pad could have better designed. after around 30 - 40 minutes i'd start to get cramp in both hands (not a good thing)! also the d-pad was a little 'clicky'. the other complaint was that the console was very quiet when a game was installed and running. i had to have the tv sound up quite a bit to compensate. all in all this is such a good machine, but it could have been much more!

i decided to buy this item as im starting a retro console collection and the first consoles i wanted to get were ones i didnt have chance to get first time round

the jaguar was one of those-too expensive for my mum to get me,and none of my mates had one so i couldnt use that excuse

so it arrived much smaller than i remember them being, same with the controller

it loads very quickly, the graphics aint anything special, but the games are great fun,the aliens game is the only one ive ever enjoyed playing on all consoles

the pad while big ,is responsive and its no bigger than the original xbox pad

im really enjoying the jaguar it couldnt compete with the other consoles on its initial release

but im playing this more than the ps3 at the moment

  Retro Atari Jaguar Console
Review created: 06/04/08

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I had one of these consoles in '93 when it first came out in the UK. I got a bargain as rumbalows was closing down and got it cheap, at that time I paid about £90 for the console and then bought extra games cheap, Tempest 2000, Trevor Mcfur, Doom, and of course Alien Vs Predator. I also tried out the Jag CD but was told that it was not being supported and that games would not be manufactured for it. I sold the Jag as I thought it was a hot potato and would not be supported by software houses. I kept my interest in cosoles, by buying, PS1, N64, Xbox, Wii, etc....
Then I discovered Ebay...

After looking on the AtariAge Websites, and others I found that the Jag had a lot of games written for it and that they could be purchased from Ebay. Remembering how good the console was in its day I decided to pursue some purchases and began collecting the games.

This was a truly under rated console at the time, and some of the software written for it is still unrivaled today. Alien Vs Predator is an absolute classic. I remember the hair standing on the back of my neck the first time I heard the predator whilst playing as a marine, and swaring (embarrassingly) out load whilst showing off the game to my family [after which I had to apologise]. Tempest 2000 is an amazing game. Thumping sound track and very adictive gameplay. There are loads of great software titles available for the Jag, many of which can be reviewed on various websites advising how common they are, and include reviews, screen shots and other bits of useful information.

There is also a CD add on, which looks like a "toilet", haha. This gives CD quality music and some better games Graphically. These can also be purchased on Ebay. There are also a lot of homebrewed games avavilable for the Jag CD and other utilities, etc, giving the gamer another dimension to the console.

If you are looking to recapture your youth then the Jag is definately one way of doing it. You won't be disappointed. Compared to the consoles of today, the graphics are poor, gameplay slow, etc, etc, but for true retro gamers there is something very special about this console. Kids of today do not understand the console, my children mocked the quality of graphics, until they played it - now then realise that gameplay and game simplicity is great. Take VidGrid for example - what a great game - hours and hours of fun.

I am in hot pursuit of a working 60Hz console so I can play Dragons Lair, again another classic game.
Some of the games are fairly rare now and hard to get hold off. Some of the other games are common but popular and so can get a very good price for them on Ebay. With the games and Jaguar being unsupported now for such a long time, ebay is about the best place to find the hardware and software. There are websites that sell software but their prices are very unreasonable.

  Atari Jaguar
Review created: 05/03/08

The Atari Jaguar is a video game console that was designed to surpass the Mega Drive/Genesis and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in processing power. It was in competition with 3DO and later consoles that made up the Fifth generation of video game consoles. The console was first released in selected U.S. cities in November 1993, and the rest of the country in early 1994. Although it was promoted as the first 64-bit gaming system, the Jaguar proved to be a commercial failure and prompted Atari to leave the home video game console market. Despite its commercial failure, the Jaguar has a large fan base that produces homebrew games, making the console a cult classic.[2]

Its hard to say anything bad about the Jaguar, maybe that if you missed it when it was around you haven't really missed anything. But for those that did I think most will agree it was an underated console and maybe its only downfall was that it was before its time. The best game was probably Alien Vs Predator and wouldn't be suprised if that sell for a few quid now as a result of the recent films.

The Free iPhone Guide

To get yourself a free iPhone all you have to do is follow the 3 easy steps:

Step 1 : Sign up for a free iPhone
Sign up at the link below to get your free iPhone. We recommend this free iPhone site because it's been TRIED and TESTED to work.

http://gifts.kudosnetwork.co.uk/?ref=172 (copy and paste into browser)

You can choose other prizes like free consoles from this site too! Make sure you use a real email address. Use your real details when you sign up so that the company knows where to send your iPhone! Remember that they have been proven legitimate, so will send you your free iPhone if you do everything legitimately!

Step 2 : Try an advertiser's offer
Basically all you need to do in this step is complete one of the offers, this is where the freebie site make their money, if you complete an offer then the freebie site will recieve commission for it. So if you complete Coral which will only cost you £5 to complete, the freebie site gets £25 from Coral. The two best offers are Lovefilm Free DVD rental (rent two DVD's, keep them for about 2 days, send them back and then cancel the trial) and Coral (bet £5 on a sport). I would reccommend you do Coral as it credits in an hour and is really simple to do, Lovefilm however can become complicated and takes up to 2 weeks to credit! You can also try one of the other offers, most are gambling offers. Don't skip this step! You must complete this step to get your free iPhone!

Step 3 : Refer some friends
This part is a lot easier than it seems, especially now with free iPhone sites getting so popular. There's lots of people online who want a free iPhone too, so start referring them! You only need to get a few signups before you'll be finished. You can ask your friends or your online buddies. I already got a free PS3, Wii, and XBOX Elite without even having to ask my friends for help - there's lots of people online who want a free iPhone like you! One of the easiest ways to get a referral is to do a favour for a friend and ask them to sign up in return. That way, you both can get a free iPhone!

Basic rules
Don't break these rules! This is the only reason that you won't get your free iPhone, so make sure you follow these rules!

- One account per household - don't use a public computer to sign up!
- Use real information - this is a proven legitimate site and they will not give out your information.
- Only complete each offer once! You cannot complete the same offer again, even for different freebies.
- Don't try to cheat the system. This site has been proven legitimate, and they will catch you if you try to cheat. If you do everything legitimately, by following this guide, you will get a free iPhone!

Thats all, just follow my guide and you will have your free iPhone in no time.

Thank you.
